I can think of a few places to look that dominate that area. Of course you have
the big sites with Williamsburg and Jamestown dominating the scene. They tend
to be high on prestige, doing solid archaeology but low on the pay scale if
your ok with that then go for it I think Jamestown will be looking for at least
one field tech this season. Within the CRM world you have James River
Institute, Cultural Resources Incorp., William and Mary's Center for
Archaeological Research, and if your willing to drive into Richmond Gray and
Pape, and a small branch of Coastal Carolina that is architecture based but I
know of at least on archaeologist that works in the office and it is located in
Petersburg. They are all full scale CRM firms and work across the state. A
relatively new state (?) park was also created in Petersburg, Pamplin Park, a
civil war memorial, and I am not sure if they have anything going on or not. I
will keep on pondering this and get back to you if I have anymore ideas, all
these firms should be attainable via the Internet. Good luck with your search
and welcome to Virginia.
Best Wishes
