I am also available to assist in such matters in the future. I can at least
help to get the site documented and a site form completed (if deemed
appropriate).
Dr. Elizabeth Moore, archaeologist, Virginia Museum of Natural History is
also located here. She might be able to assist. Dr. Moore is Curator of
Archaeology and Collections.
For your information, the Southern Office of the National Trust for Historic
Preservation has a field office in Martinsville - though the field office
does not have expertise in archaeological matters. Deepa Sanyal is the
Project Director of the Martinsville & Henry County Rural Heritage
Development Initiative, which is promoting cultural tourism and general
historic preservation awareness.
Hope this information helps.
Thanks,

Jeff Hantman is on sabbatical this semester. The best route would be to
contact the DHR regional archaeologist, for Henry County. Probably Tom
Klatka of the western region, or Chris Stevenson of the central region. See
DHR's website www.dhr.virginia.gov for phone numbers.
