Dear VA-ARCH subscribers,
The Middle Atlantic Archaeological Conference at the Cavalier Hotel
in Virginia Beach is fast approaching (March 15-18). COVA and ASV
are co-sponsors of the conference, and I hope that we will see a very
strong showing from Virginia archaeologists. A few notes:
1. The MAAC web page can be accessed at:
http://www.maacmidatlanticarchaeology.org/
2. If you are planning to attend the field trip to Cactus Hill and
Jamestown on Thursday 3/15, PLEASE contact Mike Barber
(mbbarber@...) IMMEDIATELY. We must reserve a bus for this trip,
and while we have 25 registered, we'd like to have more. Go to the
web page, click on "Conference" and scroll down to "Field Trip" for
more details. Cost is $35, lunch included.
3. PLEASE RESERVE YOUR HOTEL ROOM NOW. The Cavalier has offered us
a pretty good deal ($69-79-95/per night), but conference rates for
rooms run out on FEBRUARY 13. Time's a-wastin'! We must reserve 85
rooms so that MAAC doesn't have to pay for the meeting room rental.
Again, details are available on the web page.
4. PLEASE REGISTER FOR THE CONFERENCE NOW. This will greatly assist
us in our planning for food/beverages, reception, copying needs, etc.
Cost of registration is $30. Download the registration form and send
it to: Douglas W. Sanford, Department of Historic Preservation, Mary
Washington College,
1301 College Ave., Fredericksburg, VA 22401-5358.
5. The conference program will be posted on the MAAC website very
soon. We are very pleased to report that there are 80+ papers, a
Saturday workshop on the Colonial Chesapeake (details coming), and
that the reception will held in the Old Hotel (papers in the
conference center). This is really shaping up to be a great meeting,
and I hope you'll take full advantage of the opportunites it offers!
Let us hear from you --
