I'll add my very recent experience - I couldn't find my project that I
had spent HOURS on and was panicking because I also couldn't find the
many still pictures I was using which I would need to rebuild the
project. I called tech support and James suggested I try the fairly
recent _untitled_ project files to see if I could find the project. Of
course, you have to do the "re-do all operations" previously mentioned.

When that didn't work, Jame suggested opening the Undo_Redo_ Folder_
and DRAG the file onto the timeline. This actually worked but did not
give me the project as individual clips. Instead, it was one continuous
file (looked like it had been made into a sub-project file). Anyway, it
was better than a complete loss. It isn't easy to find the right
Undo_Redo Folder though.

Good luck - I know how frustrating this is!

A lot of video forums have always given the same answer "It can"t be fixed and
must be deleted". That said, there is always new bang wiz software coming out

So I'm about an hour into a 50th anniversary organ recital concert and my VT
just goes away, I mean a really hard shut down. Is there a way to recover
the avi file? I see the file and the other support files in the NewTek info
folder but none of the programs that I have used before to recover files
seem to work. If I can recover the main file I have various CYB shots that I
can use to fill in on the final edit.

Thanks for sharing Dan. I went to the Nashville event tonight, and just
got home after a 2 hour drive. The 3 Play and the XD300 were both
really impressive and the Mini-cooper is just cool. Thanks to Don,
Zane, Phillip, Phil and Rex (and anyone else I'm forgetting from Newtek)
for putting on a great show. Thanks to Marshall Graphics for
sponsoring tonights event, haven't done business with you before, but I
think I'll be changing that in the future, especially since you have a
rep in town. The overlay tricks and virtual inputs are just really
impressive on the XD300, its definitely a big jump forward even
disregarding the fact its doing HD now. If you get a chance, go see a
demo and see Newteks new baby, shipping next month according to the show
tonight.

Not much advantage to Win 7 directly for VT. In fact, if you don't have more
than 4GB of RAM, and you don't care about running 64 bit apps, I would stay
with XP.

What are the advantages of running Windows 7 on a VT machine over XP?
Greater than 2gb hd limit?

I have had no problem installing VT5 and Mirage on Win7. You do not need to
use 'xp mode'. If you have a non-admin user setup, then all you would have
to do is run the setup icon as administrator (by right clicking it and
selecting 'run as administrator').

What version of VT are you running? Did you install the 5.2c and 5.2d
patches? What version of QuickTime do you have installed? Remove QuickTime
and see if it will launch.

Hi again,
I wanted to update you all on progress of installing VT5 on Windows 7. After
removing all (hopefully) vestiges of VT5 from
Windows 7, I turned off User Accounts and re-installed VT5 from disk. After
everything was installed and a re-boot, when I try to start VT5, it asks me
if I want to "reset modules" (yes or no makes no difference). The VT splash
screen comes up (with my correct license number) for about 5 seconds then
disappears and nothing happens. VT5 doesn't start!! No disk activity. I
can't believe that this is so GD frustrating since this is the only one of
two programs that won't run under Windows 7.

The other is Mirage 1.5a. I have installed and re-installed this a number of
times (User Account turned off) but when I try to start it (with USB dongle
plugged in) the whole system freezes (no ctrl., alt, del) and I have to do a
cold re-boot to get the system back. I can live with Mirage on another
computer but I would like to run VT5 on this one!

I must be overlooking something fundamental but I'm lost. Any suggestions??
Thanks guys
Wayne

I've never seen it keep the old extension Chip. SuperConverter does leave
the old extension for ease to find a converted file. You can edit it

imo, the advantage is how it now handles 2-4core and large 4-16gig of ram.
VT should just perk up a bit, until Newtek HT the modules. I think you mean
2TB Raids, and Raid 1 can work in Win 7 Home Premium from the other group
message, so should raid in the higher end versions. But I don't have the
link at the moment, there are only 2 versions that have XP.

The SD Drivers would be for SpeedEDIT, as JPerkins installer does not show
these when VT5 was released. VT5.2b was posted within 2 weeks for VT5, and
then c-d to fix QT7.x.x.

I've heard in the other group about running as Administrator when installing
software, they have not covered turning off UAC. They have covered
installing Vista64 drivers if hardware has not updated for Win 7.

I will not be updating a single cpu, 3.8AMD-FX running XP-MCE SP3. Those
whom think it is the same as XP are not correct. NetFrameworks 2.0, has its
own upgrade, as I found by downloading the XP version.

Goto your MOBO site, to be sure you have their updates, including BIOS.
Check your GPU has 7 updates and your audio card as well. If your using ECC
ram, then you may need to look in BIOS for anything you can check/uncheck so
VT and System ram will OGL/talk to the hard drive.

fwiw, my Anti-Virus is going nuts with 2-3 VDB updates a day since 7 is
flooding the www. I leave audible alerts on.

So what version of Win 7 are you using Blaine? Glad to hear Mirage is
running. I'll never give a dime to tvpaint, and buy PShop instead, from all
its LW interfaces.

BestWishes

Thanks Larry...I swear that when I've tried that it kept the original
suffix...but I'll try again.

Chip

Same as renaming a file -- just change the suffix after the "dot" to

whatever...

Example: (originally) File.wmv -- Right click to open choices --

highlight "rename" and just change the name of the file to (for instance)

File.avi

Hi Blaine,
What are the advantages of running Windows 7 on a VT machine over XP? Greater
than 2gb hd limit?

Thanks,

Thanks guys
Wayne

It's possible you need the most current sentinel installer.

Download the installer here:

http://tinyurl.com/yzvdflh

Then try to install Mirage (do not use XP Mode).

Sorry it has been a long time since installing Mirage. Use the disk befor
updating to 1.5a. Once you know you have USB drivers installed, run install
Mirage disk without the key. I will then install the Sentenal, you can
update later, then ask for the key and dog tag. Once that is entered you
start and put in your product key. Hope I've remembered that correctly.

I just read something that reminded me of the two ways SE handles QT. Native way
which uses Apple QT and built-in. To access the built-in, you need to re-name
the file from .mov to .avi.

Please try that and see how it works,

Here is what I get:

Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor Report

*Newtek SD Video Driver*

*NewTek Partners LLP Unknown We don't have compatibility
information about this device.*

Of course they didn't quite get the name of the company right...

I think it's more important to know that NewTek says about compatibility and
they say it’s not compatible. But I sure which they would throw their
non-tricaster customers a bone and at least try to make something work –
even if it’s not ‘officially’ supported. Based on what Blaine is saying it
seems it could work, but based on Wayne is experiencing it may not be all
that straight forward.

A nice little procedure “*Here is how I got VT5 to run under windows 7*” –
step by step from NewTek (or anyone for that matter) would be great.

1 did, 3 others did not. Think your correct, but it depends on what QT.mov
it was made from. I know the 1 that worked changing to .avi was from an
AnimQT.avi. I've just kept my workflow with SuperConverter, as I can
increase the bitrate to 5-8k and use the new Other button, to plugin HD/HDV
resolutions, to scale DV or 486i. JimC told us of Super, but he dropped it
when he did not uninstall a new update/ver. and had problems with the new
patch. Super just does so much for free, it is as important to me as TMPG.

Oh yeah, I'm not arguing the utility of such a thing. I saw the price
that you mentioned, and in my mind that should be the regular price. My
blathering was more aimed at the idea that those guys who make duping
machines sure make a lot of scratch at this stuff. ;)

I was also wishing out loud I had more of this kind of "set it and
forget it" work. Everything I do is really hands-on. I'd really like to
find streams of revenue that reward my owning a piece of gear, something
that I can walk away from while it makes money. Back when I was doing
some VHS duplication, that was pretty awesome. The most critical part
of the outfit was a kitchen time to get me to go back and change tapes!

I don't really have the kind of clients that need dupes much. I do
author and burn discs, but it's usually one or two of the same title.
So the robo dupers & printers don't help me much. I love the printing
results of my Epson R300, but the gimmick you use to feed the discs into
the printer is pretty fragile. I also have to babysit it. I found
another one for next to nothing, so I guess if I have the need, I can go
dueling banjos and have the pair running prints.

So basically what I'm trying to say is that my advice has little value
in the area, and that I wish more easy money would fall my way. I'm
sure I'm unique in that desire, right guys? ;)

> That is were I am in a nut shell Bohus. I too only do a handful of DVD and
less BD to warrant not doing it manually. I think just a 50 disk auto printer
would be more than enough for me leaving the disk write to me. But I found a
demo/refurbished (not sure which it is since it advertises both) for $699.00.
This is a DVD writer and printer which normally cost double that price. SO I was
wondering if it is any good and then, even at $699.00, I still have to convince
myself it is worth the price in saved time vs just continuing the way I am now.
I also am factoring the new avenues of revenue I have been pursuing with live
production gigs.
