Dear Fellow amateur astronomers

More than a decade ago IUCAA took initiative to unite amateur astronomer
of India on one platform. That was the period of (almost) no information
available to explosion of information available to amateur astronomer.

During early 90s computers were new – those amateur who visited IUCAA
would look at magic technology – CCD. Now many young ones wonder why
(chemical) photography?

We used to Xerox material and send the same by post. Now often amateur
astronomers know the latest news than I.

And yet we still have long way to go. But working in isolation is not the
way to go. How many of us really engage ourselves in active serious
observational work – such as variable stars, binary stars etc.

Last night (on 6th of May at about 4 a..m.) Kanad Mandke (15yrs old) timed
his first asteroid occultation. Why not many of us are participating in
wonderful chasing an event kind of observations.

I am sure we can change all that – if we can join hands.

Before that we need to know what we need – what are our strengths and
weaknesses.

I plan to start the compilation work as soon as I get response from you
and come up with the findings as soon as I can. I would like put your
name, email id, interest in astronomy, on web directory. Please indicate
if it is ok by you.

I will be sending this to lot many groups on the web and therefore you
might get multiple copies – I am sorry about that – but please send only
one form.

I also request you that if you have any senior citizen who is not a
regular user of the internet – please pass this information to him or her.
