The Eclipse Chasers Athenaeum extends its warmest greetings to all readers of
this inaugural announcement. We are pleased to inform you about the formation of
our Athenaeum. The Athenaeum brings together all astronomers, and people with
eclipses on their minds. Eclipse chasers, Ecliptomaniacs and Umbraphiles the
world over now have the opportunity of joining this
‘First-Of-A-Kind-Athenaeum’.

The Eclipse Chasers Athenaeum has been formed with an intention to work together
towards extensive planning for the future upcoming eclipses, solar and lunar.

The Athenaeum envisages an annual convention for eclipse chasers. This
convention will present members’ past experiences, future intentions, discuss
systematic experiments and photographic plans. A platform to present all your
dedicated work on eclipses.

Eclispe Chasers Athenaeum will organise tours exclusively for members to travel
under the shadow of the Moon.

Eclipse Chasers Atheneaum has been formed to facilitate Eclipse Chasers. When is
the next eclipse over North Pole? How will the weather be on the day of the
greatest eclipse of 21st century? Where should I station myself for the 2017
totality? All these questions can be easily answered in the Athenaeum online
forum. Specially prepared texts (hard copies) will be mailed or made available
to Athenaeum members for all upcoming eclipses much in advance. So your travel
plans could start months before. Or if you wish to be an armchair eclipse
chaser, an exclusive streaming website dedicated for Atheneaum members only,
unlimited bandwidth, no jamming of website, real time streaming for your seeing
pleasure.

The first event of the Eclipse Chasers Athenaeum is already upon us. Partial
Lunar Eclipse of 16th August is just a day away. The Lunar eclipse is fully
visible over the Indian night skies. The Athenaeum will be webcasting 3 hour
umbral phases of the event live over the internet. The streaming will be done
over a stable and good bandwidth internet connection. An exclusive server has
been dedicated just for the webcast and we have ensured that no jamming or data
transfer problems occur. The webcast will be of good quality and high resolution
video. The webcast event will only be available to interested persons using a
login ID and password.

A team of Athenaeum members is travelling to pristine skies in the Himalayas to
image the Partial Eclipse. The team will be measuring the diameter of the
Earth’s shadow at Lunar distance and also video time the occultations that are
ocurring during the eclipse, namely that of Neptune and bright star 42
Capriconi.

To become an Athenaeum member
1. The Annual Membership fee is Rs.1500/-.
2. Students 17 years of age or below get the membership at a discounted price
of Rs. 1000/- per year.
3. There is no age limit.
4. If a parent/Guardian wants to accompany the child [who is already a member]
to any of our eclipse excursions, he/she will have to become a member themselfs.
5. There will be an Annual Convention of the members where they will share
their experiences and discuss their findings.
6. Each member will get a unique user id and password with which they can log
in and access a lot of written material and also view live web cast of eclipses
as and when they occur.
You may be need to create an account to access some features or areas of this
site. When creating your account, you must provide accurate and complete
information. You are solely responsible for any and all uses of your account,
and you must keep your password secure. You may never use the account of another
user. You must notify the Eclipse Chasers Athenaeum immediately if you suspect
