A) Sorry about the day time occultation today

B) But here is real good one coming up

please visit the link below:

http://www.iucaa.ernet.in/~aaa/occult/lunar/lunar_occultation_of_PsiSag.htm

It is a 4.9 mag psi Sag being occult ed by the Moon
the event takes place at about 8:30 p.m. on 7th Oct.

In principle you can see the event with naked eyes. But telescope
will surely help a lot. Binox is not a good option as the light
of the half illuminated moon will be harsh on your eyes.

It would be gr8 if many of us can time the event.
You will need a good stop watch.

This is what you need to do - set your clock with times beeps
just before the all india radio news at 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.

As often as you can before the event - then start looking at
the Moon at least about 10 min before the predicted time of the
event.

Finding star in the telescope will be a simple matter - just look
east of the dark limb of the moon and you should see it.

Now keep looking at the star - and be ready with the stop watch
to press its start switch.

Start the stop watch the moment you see the event i.e. the star
gets occulted by the moon.

Stop the stopwatch at some fix time from your standard clock

From this standard clock time subtract the time shown by the
stopwatch and you have the time for the event.

If you need more information please feel free to contact me.

*** even if you are not timing the event don't forget to observe it
its a fun for an amateur astronomer.
