First, I think its a great piece of "forensic" programming analysis!
Secondly, I would guess the problem derives from trying to maximize
compatibility across a diversity of editing environments.
It seems to me Nuance could make a tidy buck or two by producing
customizable "editing frames" for the programming market. How much
would you pay for that capability: $50? $100? OTOH, what chance is
there that Nuance will be clever enough to take a chance on increasing
the utility of DNS to a group that's not likely to pony up an extra
$500 for a fairly simple add-on?
