Mosaic of the Moon taken by Jeff Poutney..
The W.A.A.C. was formed by five active observers in April, 1999, and currently has more than 36 members. We are based in Wollongong, a city of approximately a quarter of a million people 80 km south of the much larger city of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia.
How the W.A.A.C. Group Operates
Membership: $20 per year (This includes liability insurance)
Meetings: these are held on the first Thursday of every month at the Unanderra Community Centre. These are generally very informal events where recent and upcoming events are discussed. They are the best opportunity for people new to the hobby of Amateur Astronomy to ask questions. Our members are very friendly and willing to help newcomers. Some telescopes would usually be available for viewing if the night is clear. Occasionally a guest speaker may be invited or some members will give a presentation on various aspects of astronomy.
Our members vary from purely visual observers to dedicated astroimagers using sophisicated computer control telescopes and DSLR / CCD camera's.
The Wollongong Amateur Astronomy Club welcomes visitors, either experienced observers or beginners. If you're looking for a friendly atmosphere to learn more about Amateur Astronomy simply contact us and drop in to a meeting.
