Hello fellow wolf lovers. My name is Kimberly and I
have loved wolves longer than I can remember. I am
americanindian and from the tribe, Crow. I collect
many different items on wolves, and also sponsor
wolves. Found this poem and thought I would share.
~~Spirit Wolf~~ By Maija
The spirit of the wolf livs in us all.
To look in their eyes will tell the tale of
thousand of years.
Their courage and endurance through time,
shine through these majestic creatures.
Now all of this might be coming to an end.
man ymen want to see them destroyed.
These beautiful creatures are feared and hated.
They can't defend themselves, so it is up to us.
We are the ones who believe in their magic.
We are the ones who have to fight to protect them,
before they are all gone and all that is left
is a memory.
I thought this poem explains it like it is.

May the Wolf Spirit guide you on your path
May the Wolf Spirit touch your heart and soul
May his howls be heard thru the valleys and forest
And carried like whispers on the wind.

Help Save the Mexican Wolf!
With only eight Mexican wolves left in the American Southwest, we
need your
help to ensure that the most critically endangered wolf in the world
stays on the
road to recovery.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) recently approved an
important proposal to move previously reintroduced endangered gray
wolves into New Mexico€ '²s Gila Wilderness and surrounding national
forest lands -- an area far away from roads, people and livestock.
The ability to move wolves is a valuable management option that
allows for quick responses to conflicts that have resulted in the
death of livestock and wolves.
In order for wolves to gain a foothold in the Southwest, like their
counterparts in
Yellowstone and central Idaho, additional Mexican wolves must be
reintroduced into this remote area. Releasing Mexican wolves into the
Gila Wilderness will
significantly reduce conflicts with people and livestock, avoid wolf
deaths, and
expose wolves to abundant native prey.
However, anti-wolf interests are mobilizing against any future
reintroductions. Help save the critically endangered Mexican wolf by
visiting http://www.savewolves.org. Send a free e-mail to the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service urging them to allow the release of Mexican
wolves that have not been previously released into this remote area
of New Mexico.

The protests from all over the world against ,Norways decision to kill two wolf
packs in Østerdalen is beeing noticed.Newspapers could some days ago bring an
intervju with the peronally secretery of the minister of environment. He told
about numerous mails to the minister, protesting to the killing. Anyway the
desision still counts ,and the packs are still threatened. If you havent
allready sendt your protest, im sending the email adress to Mrs Siri Bjerke
,Minister of environment

So you can send your protest !!!
The gouvernment, has desided that wolves can live in parts of the sout-east of
Norway. In the rest of the country ,wolves are unwanted. This because of
sheep-farmers who let their sheeps out in the spring unatended all summer. When
fall comes they hope they are still alive, but if someone is missing ,the
predators automaticly gets the blame. (Please exuse my bad english.)
PS: If someone is interested i can send you an map in PDF-format ,over the sone
where wolves can live !

A lone wolf , called Fenre ,was shot in Vest-Agder in Norway today. It was an
official hunt ,who was started after Fenre killed about 20 sheeps ,who grased
unatended (witch almoust all sheeps in Norway does) in a field ,near a farm.
Even when Norway only got about 40 wolves the officials allow them to be
killed, for taking 20 sheeps of a total of around 4 million sheeps in Norway.

STOP KILLING WOLVES IN NORWAY.
On the internett i read that the lone wolf Fenre was shot

unatended sheeps. I have also heard that Norway is planning to
exterminate to whole packs of wolves in Østerdalen , next winter.
This will wipe out 50% of all wolves in Norway.
I strongly protest to this killing , and ask's Norway to STOP THE

Yesterday,Friday 7.7.2000 ,a wolf was shot in Østerdalen-Norway.This was an 2- 3 year old male ,witch where collared in Sweden last winter. The permission to kill it was given by norwegian authorities 4th of July, and ended Friday 7.7. But the hunters had not shot it when the permission ran out,so permission was given to continue another week, they also used radiotelemetry in the "hunt". This is the 3rd wolf to be shoot legally in Norway this summer. (Remeber ,the total of wolves in Norway :about 40.Partly togheter with Sweden).
The reason for killing this wolf was ,as always :It had taken some sheep, witch is running unatended all over this country. Below you can see a newspaper article, from a norwegian paper today. With pictures.
Last night a sheep-farmer shot five shoots against a wolf in Rendalen. The wolf
was seen at a grazing field ,and later a dead sheep where found. The farmers in
the area has put out armed guards (Themselves) at night near the sheeps. They
will seek after a permit to kill the wolf, but as they already shown, they doesnt
need a permit to try an kill it. Luckilly the wolf escaped. If they see the wolf
at the exact moment they attack a sheep they are allowed to kill it anyway.

During the summer several permissions to kill wolves in Norway, has been
issued. Not all has ended in dead wolves, but several wolves has been killed . Now
the Directory of nature-management has issued a permit to kill 2 wolves in
Østerdalen. This two wolves belongs to one of the two packs that the gouvernment
wants to exterminate completely.I therefore suspect that the extermination has
started, they start "light" with 2 wolves ,not to awake the oppinion, and
continiue killing till they have reached their goal.
11 men, from the "States nature watch" has started the hunt, and can hunt all
over the municipally Rendalen.

The local head of police in Aurskog/Høland in Norway, found a litle while ago a
cut off wolfpaw on his doorstep.
It has long been rumors of illegall killing of wolves there, and poison has been
found in the woods.Rumors say that two litters of pups have been killed this
spring. Nothing have been proved though. The paw found .could bee the first
evidence of illegal killing. The case is under investigation.

Here are some history around the wolves in scandinavia the last "20" years.
I will post some updates, once in a while.
Petter Wabakken, Department of Forestry and Wilderness Management, Hedmark
College, N-2480 Koppang, Norway; Håkan Sand, Olof Liberg, Grimsö Research
Station, Swedish University of Agriculture Sciences, S-730 91 Ridderhyttan,
Sweden; Anders Bjärvall, Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, S-106 48
Stockholm, Sweden
During 21 successive winters, 1978/79 - 1998/99, wolf population status,
distribution and dynamics was monitored by snow tracking on the Scandinavian
Peninsula (Sweden and Norway). The monitoring program involved cooperative
Swedish-Norwegian fieldwork. Reports of sightings, tracks, and prey remains were
also checked. On one-day censuses, hundreds to several thousands of volunteers
participated in the search for wolf tracks. After the 1978 reproduction in the
reindeer management area of northern Sweden, all new pairs and packs were
located in the south-central parts of the peninsula, from 1983 and onwards. At
the end of the study, in winter 1998/99, the population estimate was 62 - 78
wolves, about a 20-fold increase from the three wolves counted in 1982. During a
19-year period (1980/81-1998/99), the mean annual rate of population increase
was 1.19 ± 0.02, while during 1990/91 to 1998/99 the annual population increase
was 1.28 ± 0.04. During the study, 30-36 litters were raised. The mean pack size
after the first litter raised by newly established pairs was 6.1 ± 1.4 wolves (n
= 10) in early winter, but showed a decreasing trend during the 21-year study.
Average pack size in winter for wolf pairs where and when breeding was confirmed
more than once was 6.8 ± 1.9 wolves (n = 15) and showed an increasing trend over
the study period. All but one of 33 reported wolf deaths were known to be human
caused. Among dead wolves, adult males were on average 10.3 kg heavier than
adult females. Females dominated among wolves killed within pack territories,
while males dominated among wolves killed in areas outside such territories.
Among wolves born in 1983 or later, 11 of 12 wolves killed outside the main wolf
distribution area were males. Of 11 new wolf territories where breeding
occurred, all except two were established without bordering other already
existing territories. The average minimum new pair formation distance was 108 ±
76 km. To what extent this population is genetically isolated is at present
unclear. The nearest, known neighboring wolf-breeding area is located about 800
km to the northeast, along the Finnish-Russian border. To ensure long-term
survival of wolves in Scandinavia, we believe that immigration of wolves from
the Finnish/Russian source population is needed. Cooperative Fennoscandian
research on wolf genetics and population dynamics based on radio-telemetry is
recommended. Cooperative Fennoscandian monitoring of wolves has been initiated.
Anders Bjärvall, The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, Blekholmsterrassen
36, S-10648 Stockholm, Sweden
When the wolf was protected in Sweden in 1966 and Norway in 1973, there were
probably fewer than ten individuals left in Scandinavia. However, reproduction
was verified in northernmost Sweden in 1978. After that, the number of wolves
again decreased almost to zero. At the same time reports of wolf sightings
started to appear from a region in west-central Sweden close to the Norwegian
border. In 1982, we began to realize that if the wolf would be able to survive
in Scandinavia, it would be in this region. Wolves repopulation in this region
can be divided into three phases. The first began with the first reproduction
here in 1983 and lasted through 1990. During these 8 years, seven litters of
wolves were known to have been born here. Still, the estimated total number of
wolves never exceeded ten. During the second phase (1991 to 1995) two litters of
wolves were verified each year. The number of wolves exceeded 20 towards the end
of this phase. During the current third phase, obvious population growth took
place. The number of litters increased to three in 1996 and to five or six
thereafter, and the total number of wolves last winter was estimated at 62-78.0
To investigate the opinion in Sweden as to this growing population, more than
2000 Swedes were interviewed by telephone in late 1997. More than two-thirds of
the respondents could accept a wolf population twice as big as the 40-60 wolves
that were in Scandinavia at that time. Further, more than 40% were willing to
accept at least 500 wolves. The study also gave interesting information about
differences among demographic groups. A Swedish governmental Carnivore
commission recently submitted a proposal for a future Swedish Carnivore policy.
The commission suggested 200 wolves as the minimum goal for the future. Before
that goal will be reached, only wolves causing particular problems would be
allowed to be killed. In areas with semidomestic reindeer management, wolf
reproduction should be avoided but generously compensated if occurring. The
presence in those areas of pairs or single wolves is considered important for
the gene-flow from the east to the Scandinavian population and would also be
compensated.

The directory of nature management sendt yesterday out warning ,that in the

If this shall be started it has to be proven that it is 10 familygroups of
