Graham,
Thanks for the intelligent response to some very irrational posts.
One possible exception. Although I know little to nothing about internal affairs
in Iran, I question the following which you wrote:
>The Iranians have used the recent allegations of the stolen vote to demonstarte
their opposition. These class >struggles teach the workers.
It is good to see active opposition to authority. We need so much more of that
here in the USA. However, I suspect that such opposition is of a bourgeois
revolution mentality and the way the US Government and media has been playing
it, the demonstrators and opposition are being used as tools of the Capitalist
Imperialist status quo. I respect Ahmadinejad for his hard line against the
hegemonic forces of the US and the associated Capitalist interests. I respect
Islam, certainly more than hedonistic immoral and amoral Western civilization.
Venezuela and Iran have formed strategic economic alliances. That is good.
That's all I want to say. I am someone who has hardly ever been outside the
North American continent and speak only English and un poquito Espanol y/et un
peu Francais. I know how to say peace and friend in every language.
I'm a work kin for peace and cooperation.
With much love and care,
Saddiq Morin

Subject: [WSM_Forum] Re: Islam is the enemy of Socialism
Geesh, did the fruit loops suddenly climb out of the woodwork, or what?
Anyhoo....
Islam is not a monolithic bloc - which buys into the "Conflict of Civilisations"
thesis - and neither are all muslims the same, despite the so-called Ummah.
Furthermore, many of the Islamic states' creation and continued existence is
inextricably bound to the interests of Western Capital and Imperialism - there
was the break up of the Ottaman Empire after WWI and re-drawing of maps, and the
Middle East isn't exactly famous for its production of carrots. For all their
horseshit about democracy, the Saudi Kingdom is vital to US interests in the
region.
Certainly, Political Islam is a dangerous foe. Remember, though, who makes it
and funds it. The Saudis have fundamentalist schools around; the Taliban was a
creation of the Pakistani secret service; the Mujihadeen were funded by Saud and
supported in various ways by the CIA during the Afghan-Soviet war.
One of the few places political talks can be held in some of these countries is
at the mosque. It has been argued that democracy would actually break
fundamentalism as "competing ideas" to Political Islam would not be suppressed.
And we should never forget the social forces at operation. The Iranians have
used the recent allegations of the stolen vote to demonstarte their opposition.
These class struggles teach the workers.
(Which incidentally, is something Lenny the Troll should think about.)
Finally, anybody who suggests sections of the population should die or be wiped
out because they are muslim should do themselves and us a favour by pissing off
to Stormfront, where their bigotry is more than welcome.
