Hello: I'm running SeaMonkey 1.9 (PMW) under eCS1.2mr without problems unless I
click on an email in the list in an attempt to read one causing the email app,
as well as any open browser windows instantaneously crash. My previous email
was Mozilla 1.7.11 (unoff.). I read the information in MozillaZine about
migrating profiles, one reason that I chose 1.9 over 2.0, and followed their
recommendations with only rare grains of salt. I have edited prefs.js to ensure
that all references to directories are correct and also deleted some of the msf
files and allowed Seamonkey to rebuild them, all to no avail. I attempted to
use the migration utility in SeaMonkey. It saw only Netscape email files from
the initial selection window, leading to an empty menu in the second one, a dead
end. I also cleaned up my ini files with UniMaint prior to the transition,
using additional due diligence to leave only entries for mozilla_home and
moz_plug config.sys references.
These are important email archives that I want both to preserve and to be able
to continue to have access to. I will soon be moving all to a new machine
running rc6a (or GA, if available and equally stable) and will no longer have to
continue with my current 1.2mr installation that has been migrated several
times, acquiring quirks along the way, but need ongoing access until I have
accomplished the move.
And, I hate webmail!
Any suggestions?

Does the drive light come on? How long have you waited for Seamonkey to

Seamonkey v2 doesn't use this and might be causing some problems. If
nothing else uses the Innotek font engine you might want to uninstall
it or else edit the registry to remove Seamonkey from the apps that use
it

I'll upload Seamonkey 2.0.1 to netlabs tonight. This is mostly a
(non-OS/2) bugfix release. If you get the same crashes in gtklayout we
can look up the crashing function

fixes
With any luck Thunderbird v3.0 and Seamonkey v2.0.1 will be available
there tomorrow
I reported earlier on crashes with SM 1.1.18 and 2.0. I have now totally
nuked 1.1.18. I have been able to get my email working under 2.0 except
for the filters that I had set migrated from 1.1.18.
I now have a new problem. SM 2.0 crashes in two ways:
1) SM hangs. No CPU time is being used, but I can't do anything except
move the mouse pointer around the screen. I have to re-boot via C-A-D.
2) SM just goes away. Sometimes it leaves an entry in POPUPLOG.OS2, but
may time it does not. Two examples:

Keyword: "filtering".

Less often now because you're caught up on mail fetch. Happened that way here
too. I fixed it here by discarding msgFilterRules.dat imported from SM1 and
building all new filters. Something about at least one imported filter was
obviously a problem, but I didn't know any practical way to pin down which one.
But, I'm back to using SM1, as SM2 mail is much too sluggish on my many mail
folders and accounts, and it, including CZ, uses nearly twice the RAM as SM1,
running me out of shared RAM in less than 4 days of uptime, while I need at
least 6 days between restarts. More details in my thread in
news:mozilla.dev.ports.os2.

Fixed my problem, mostly, by dumping SM 1.1.18 and Thunderbird, replaced
with SM 2.0. The browser no longer crashes, hangs or does some other
weird stuff that I didn't mention in my original post.
I AM having problems with email, however. At first, I got this quite
often, but now, not so much. A popup error message box says:
There was an error truncating the inbox after filtering a message to
folder 'XXXXXX'. You may need to shutdown SeaMonkey and delete INBOX.msf.
At first, I deleted INBOX.MSF, but it did not seem to make a difference.
I deleted ALL *.msf, and it seems to have improved. I still get the
message occasionally.
Any pointers on this one?
Bear with me! I'm obviously still learning about SM...
Thanks!

source

That is not necessary. The version-specific file can be found in the
correct place without copying or moving it.

These sorts of errors suggest that you are trying to run 1.1.x and 2.0.x
at the same time, without using Run!L or LIBPATHSTRICT. Other things to
check for are listed on the Warpzilla Tips page.

These sorts of crashes on exit are frequently caused by the Flash plugin,
in my experience.

I'm on an older eCS, 1.1 with SP4 plus selected. additional fixes. 1.1.18 has
been very good, a problem only with uptime of more than about 6 days. The
first day I tried 2.0 I only got about 10 hours uptime before it crashed.
This 2.0 session is currently at 10.5 hours, but half that was while I was
sleeping.

My MOZILLA_HOME has been the root DIR of my data partition about 8 years,
with Mozilla stuff in of all the silly places, the \Mozilla DIR.

No, I leave it empty. No plugins means fewer browser crashes.

And do you copy each time the new file npnulos2.dll to that directory?
Thus same remark, why not use an easy retracable common directory for
all mozilla brands, such as \Internet\Plugins. It suffices for instance
to install Flash10 from there to have it all right for everything in one go.
IMHO, you only need entries like these:
SET MOZ_BIN=C:\SeaMonkey
SET Mozilla_home=C:\Internet\Gebruikers
SET MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH=C:\Internet\Instekers
SET NSPR_OS2_NO_ HIRES_TIMER=1
And if you would be so clever to have only one version of SeaMonkey
around you even wouldn't need the first entry.
Incidentally, probes of any SeaMonkey 2.00 caused nothing but trouble
here, and on top of that there are no means to print (except for the not
so handy work around).
So, or stick to SM118 if you want to have it safe or to SM2.00 if you
want to fight against fate.

Groeten uit Gent,
Kris
SeaMonkey is very unstable under both 1.1.18 and 2.0 on one of my systems. I
don't
know whether this is a bug or a problem with my system. Crashes from both
versions
produce entries in popuplog.os2. I am running eCS 2.0 rc6a.
I need some direction as to where to start the debugging process.
Thanks!
Looking at the popuplog.os2 fragment below, the entries from
E:\MOZILLA\SEAMONKEY\SEAMONKEY.EXE are SeaMonkey 1.1.18
while the ones from
E:\SEAMONKEY\SEAMONKEY.EXE are SeaMonkey 2.0
I also find that SM 2.0 remains in memory after I close it on occasion. I have
to
reboot to continue online.
I have the following in config.sys:
SET MOZILLA_HOME=E:\
SET MOZILLA_USE_EXTENDED_FT2LIB=T
SET MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH=E:\MOZILLA\FIREFOX\PLUGINS
SET MOZ_NO_REMOTE=1
Could some of thee above statements be causing my problems?

Hello all,
When I try to go to Facebook, I get a dialog that says, "You have chosen
to open: application/vnd.wap.xhtml+xml from http://m.facebook.com" and
asks what to open it with or if I want to save it.
Is there a fix?
Thanks,

Thing is that with rws08 installed then clicking a pdf should
automatically use whatever the WPS is configured to use, at least it
does here. Also at that time I do get a choice that includes other and
a box to enter the path to what ever you want to use.

I thought the empty page had been fixed quite a while ago.
You are right, there doesn't seem to be a way to add helper
applications. 2.1a1pre just has a lot more in the list then a 2 month
old build here.
The applications in the list can be changed and that includes PDF in
2.1a1pre

As far as not being able to add items; "the SeaMonkey 2 Helper Applications
panel
does not allow you to add a new file type, as you were able to do in SeaMonkey
1.x"

ox_3_and_SeaMonkey_2
Seamonkey inherited the same limitations as Firefox in this area, and hasn't
fixed
them yet. It may be addressed for version 2.1.

Do you have http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/h-search.php?key=rws08dll installed?
Dave
I am using SeaMonkey 2.0 and trying to add Lucide to handle .PDF content.
I go to Edit > Preferences > Browser > Helper Applications
According to the Help text, there should be a list of applications in the right
hand
pane, but it is blank. right and left clicking does nothing..
What am I missing?
Thanks!

Me too, if memory serves mine started with NS Communicator3 and grew
from there through the various flavours of NS/Mozilla , machines and
opsys's (win3.0 ---> winXP and os2 warp 3(red floppies)--->eCS112mr).

I have been sharing profiles between OS/2-eCS and Win for several years.
It is trivial and safe.
First, I have profiles, mail/news and bookmarks in separate trees on a
data data drive. It is FAT32 and works fine. The apps are on another
FAT32 drive.
All OS/2 needs is:
SET MOZILLA_HOME=X:\MOZPROFILES
SET MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH=X:\MOZPROFILES\PLUGINS
And the LIB DLLs in OS2/DLL
And a run object with -Profilemanager as a parameter.
Create the profiles under OS/2-eCS and point to bookmarks and mail/news,
cache, bookmarks - I still use bookmark.htm; 8.3 that started life in NS.
Profiles do dot need to be berried at the bottom of a cryptic tree, you
can put them anywhere you want.
SM 1X and 2X require different profiles but I am still using the same
data noted above. With sqlite coming in that may change.
In W2K and WXP create a shortcut and add a space and "-Profilemanager"
after the run command. Then when SM Win loads lead it to the 1X or 2X
profile. I have not needed to do anything else for Win.
I run SM OS/2 without any addons. SM Win I let add Flash.
Works fine.
There are some other tricks but I have to go now.

Thank you Steve, Stan and David. More reading is obviously required. I
may just try my idea when I get a moment and see what happens, 90+% of
my time is in os2 not windows, so it is not a vital thing to make
happen, I just like the idea of everything in one place rather than
rather than shifting bits back and forth.

As has been stated, this is an OS/2 only thing.

It's been a while since I have done this, but it is simple to do:
- Set-up the profile using eCS on the shared partition.
- In Windows, use the Seamonkey profile manager to add a new profile. Don't
accept the standard profile directory but browse to the profile directory you
want to use and select it.
The issues I can remember with this are:
- There are some settings that use the full path. If the drive letter is
different for the two OSes, there could be problems.
- The status of addons are checked when Seamonkey detects a version change.
This will happen everytime you swap OSes if the two aren't kept at the same
version. There is probably a profile option to turn this off or change the
frequency.
- Some addons are OS dependent. These will cause problems.

I think
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information#Backing_up_your_\
profile
should be of help, especially the advanced portion. I don't think
it's impossible to do, but it's possible that there are some OS/2
specific things in some of the profile settings files that may make it
incompatible with a Windows version using the same data. In any case
you would know very rapidly... GRD If it's just bookmarks, THAT could
be done with a dos or REXX script that copied the windows bookmark
file prior to actually opening the OS/2 version, and copied it back
after the os/2 version closed. .

I'm pretty sure MOZILLA_HOME is OS/2 specific. You would have to use the
profile manager to point your profile location to the directory you want.

I don't know if there are any caveats to sharing the profile across
operating systems; I would check Google for hints, unless others here have
advice.
> Drive L: is a fat32 partition
The performance under OS/2 will probably be poor...
Hi All
Having had my windows installation eat itself (or catastrophic operator
error) and having to reinstall everything, can I get away with doing the
following:
1. Adding to the win XP system variables
SET MOZILLA_HOME=L:\!net-home\
SET MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH=L:\!net-home\MOZ_PLUG\w32
2. Then setting up an un-*.slt'd profile of the same name and in the
same working "HOME" sub directory as I have for eCS 1.1x and eCS1.2mr,
saving off the current eCS profile and then copying back after the
windows set-up completes. the eCS plugins arre currently in the root of
...\MOZ_PLUG but I'm thinking of shifting them to ...\MOZ_PLUG\os2 just
for consistency. The desired end result being, that the 3 opsys
SeaMonkey installations all work out of:
L:\!net-home\Mozilla\Profiles\ <profile name>
Drive L: is a fat32 partition, and my mail is in a separate directory
pointed to in the respective "Mail Account" settings
I'm concerned about conflicts and if there is anything else I would need
to do, so I would appreciate comment from the collective wisdom. TIA

Having it integrated with the OS already is certainly better. The WarpIn
package is supposed to simplify things, but I haven't bothered to try any
of it. I rarely print, and the Postscript driver works.

Of which I even don't have to think about.
Whereas after more than 5 tries with eCups I had to give in: this stuff
simply isn't meant for simple human beings. (-:

I have no idea what the specifics are about Tom's issue; as he said, it
works most of the time. I was just sharing what I know. ;-)

Seamonkey is a cross-platform browser, and OS/2-specific issues don't mean
much to anyone else, as far as stability goes. It looks like there will
be an automated printing solution for PostScript and CUPS printers in the
near future; a solution that works with all of the old OS/2 printer
drivers would require an expert in that area to work on the Cairo library.
To be honest, I don't think that is going to happen.

Not that it matters, but MacOS uses CUPS for printer drivers.

This sounds like it could be the answer. I have SM 2.0 on the machine, but have
not
been able to get it working just yet. Will test some more this evening.
SM 1.1.18 works MOST of the time. It may depend on which eBay server I get
connected
to. It has been suggested elsewhere that an eBay server might be configured
incorrectly.
Thanks!

Looks like for browsing we will have to move to the Mac too. (-:
