Dear All
I'm Using Qmail with Open-LDAP, I want the address book feature in
webmail to import automatically to webmail for all domains instead of putting
them manually.
To be more clear if I have domain named domain.com had 50 account on it, I want
any new account added to this domain to find the othe 50 account automatically
in his webmail address book.
Thanx for help :)

you could use Horde (in combination with IMP) (http://www.horde.org) or
ilohamail (http://ilohamail.org). There is also squirrelmail
(http://www.squirrelmail.org) and probably a lot more in general.
Horde might be a bit tricky to setup ilohamail and squirrelmail might be
easier - but I have never used it
Some info about Horde:
Description: horde web application framework
The Horde Framework is written in PHP, and provides the common
tools a Web application requires: classes for dealing with preferences,
compression, browser detection, connection tracking, MIME, and more.
.
The Horde Framework, by itself, does not provide any significant end user
functionality; it provides a base for other applications and tools for
developers. You will probably want to install some of the available Horde
applications, such as IMP (a webmail client), or Kronolith (a calendar).
.
There is a list of Horde applications and projects at
http://www.horde.org/projects.php.
Some info about IMP:
Description: webmail component for horde framework
IMP is the Internet Messaging Program (formerly, among other things, the IMAP
webMail Program), a PHP-based webmail system and a component of the Horde
project. IMP, once installed, accesses mail over IMAP thus requiring little
to no special preparations on the server on which mail is stored.
.
IMP offers most of the features users have come to expect from their
conventional mail programs, including attachments, spell-check, address
books,
multiple folders, and multiple-language support.
Horde / IMP are actually part of a full groupware-suite based on IMAP and a
database. They can be used with POP3 though.
Some info about ilohamail:
Description: Light weight yet full featured multilingual web-based IMAP/POP3
client
IlohaMail (pronounced: e-lo-ha-mail) is a light weight yet full featured
multilingual webmail program that is easy to use.
.
Admin Features:
* Light weight and fast
* Extensive multilingual capabilities
* Modular - Easily modifiable to accommodate different backends.
* Activity Logging
* Spam Prevention
* Multiple host/domain support
* Auto-appended Tag-Lines
* Optional MySQL backend for improved scalability and performance.
* External SMTP server support
* IMAP caching
* Theme support
.
Client Features:
* POP3 & IMAP Support
* Send, receive, file, delete messages
* GPG support
* Multiple sender identities
* Spell checker (with aspell)
* Create, rename, delete folders
* Send/receive attachments
* View images inline
* Full featured Contacts list
* Calendar included
* Bookmarks manager
* Search messages
* Customizable - Over 2 dozen user preferences
* Support for over 20 languages
.
Upstream Homepage is http://www.ilohamail.org/
Some info about squirrelmail:
Description: Webmail for nuts
SquirrelMail is a standards-based webmail package written in PHP4. It
includes built-in pure PHP support for the IMAP and SMTP protocols, and
all pages render in pure HTML 4.0 (with no Javascript required) for maximum
compatibility across browsers. It has very few requirements and is very
easy to configure and install. SquirrelMail has all the functionality
you would want from an email client, including strong MIME support,
address books, and folder manipulation.
.
Homepage: http://www.squirrelmail.org/
They are all for Linux / Unix. If you're running windows I can't help you.
AFAIK Horde / IMP runs as well on windows.

Hello everyone, I am running a linux pop3 mail server and I would like
to make my client to check their e-mail from web but I dont know how
could I make it possible. I have a web site and want to make my client
to check their pop mail through my site.
I have my own domain now but find that the webmail software - Horde -
does not offer a robust enough addressbook. Is the addressbook used
by e-mail hosts separate from the e-mail software? Is this
customizeable? Can someone recommend another webmail product that has
a better addressbook? I use Outlook 2002 on my desktop, my ppc syncs
with Outlook 2002 and I want to be able to sync my webmail addressbook
with Outlook. If I could find a webmail program like Yahoo uses :) ......
Thanks in advance
php and Microsoft's asp are methods of running software on the server -
not in the user's browser.
The only way I can imagine this happening is if the Web-mail system runs
a complex Java applet in the browser, with security settings and proper
configuration so it can read and write the mailbox files in the
appropriate directory on the local computer. Then there would be
synchronisation problems - and contention problems if the "Web-mail"
system was reading or writing these mailboxes while Mozilla /
Thunderbird was trying to read or write them.
It would be interesting to know if anyone has attempted this.

Hello people. I hope that this group is still alive...
I was wondering if there is a way (easy way, that is) to access my
local emails, as they are downloaded by Thunderbird (which uses the
mBox format). I know that it can be done through php or asp. I just
don't have the necessary knowledge to pull it off by myself.
Any ideas?
Thank you

Hello all!
I'm also quite interested in this issue -- can webmail be made to
work like Thunderbird or some other desktop email client? Thus far,
the best-looking solution I've come across is Communik8r
(http://www.communik8r.org), an application for the open-source
phpGroupWare framework. However, Communik8r is currently in the alpha
stages, lacking critical features such as 'reply'.
Has anyone else seen a webmail application that will do something of
the sort? I know that for me, support and security really aren't
issues -- I just want to be able to run a 'home away from home' on my
personal website that will check all of my email accounts at once and
let me know if I have new mail in any of them. Unfortunately, it
looks like Postman won't be an option, as the hosting solution I'm
going with probably wouldn't take too kindly to me running random
binaries -- so I'm going to have to find a PHP/MySQL based solution.
Does anyone know of any packages that might possibly work?

Postman also supports multiple mail folders but I don't really
recommend the software even though we are using it. As an
aside, the program uses )" as a record seperator which creates
some odd results if a password contains )".
It may be something to watch for in other programs.
There is nothing in principle that should prevent you from
allowing connections to other imap servers as long as you
are comfortable with the support (and potential security)
implications. For these reasons we have specifically
excluded multiple imap servers even though the software
will allow it.

Thanks for the suggestion, Koset. I did consider fetchmail but for
various reasons would want to leave the mail on individual IMAP servers
with the flexibility to be able to move select messages around.

Well actually, there is (or was). jwebmail (jwebmail.sourceforge.net)
does allow this. But this doesn't seem to be an active project with
the last update in 2002. I was wondering if any of the more recent
webmail clients offer this facility - either as a native feature,
patch or workaround.

I wouldn't expect an off-the-shelf client to do this. When you
use Pine or Thunderbird, they are really running on your local
computer, and accessing IMAP servers on remote machines. WebMail
software, however, typically runs on a Web Server that is local
to the IMAP server, and just talks to your browser. So to
accomplish what you're asking, there would have to be a WebServer
running software which then talks to multiple IMAP clients and
somehow combines all the folders, etc. You could write something
like this, but I don't think you'll find something already written. I'd be
happy to be proven wrong, though.

Hi Everyone,
Does anyone have any experience in integrating squirrel mail into
tikipro?
Or embedding it inside another webpage (without frames)
If you know how to or could point me in the right direction,
Id really appreciate it!

about using fetchmail? It works quite well for collecting

Hi,
I am sorry if this is off-topic.
I am looking for a gpl'd (or otherwise) webmail client that allows
access to multiple imap servers simultaneously. My mail folders are
distributed across multiple mailboxes across different servers.
Currently, webmail clients like squirrelmail/IMP only allow logging
into any one of the them at a given point in time.
Non-web based IMAP clients like pine and thunderbird allow this and
thus am able to save/filter messages across multiple mailboxes (and
across different servers). Is there a webmail equivalent or a
workaround to achieve this with standard webmail clients?
Any pointers would be really appreciated.
Cheers,
lnxuser2002

Hi-
My name is Mike Wellington. I am brand new to this
group and I am trying to come up to speed on TWIG.
http://twig.screwdriver.net/
I have used other web-based email clients including:
http://www.SquirrelMail.org,http://www.runbox.com,http://www.visio.com, Hotmail, Yahoo Mail,
http://www.onebox.com,http://www.webbox.com.
They all have their advantages/disadvantages. No one
client meets all my needs.
I am having some trouble understanding "Groups" in
TWIG.
There are "Groups" that you can send email to and
there seems to be an entirely different "Groups" construct
that allows members to share Calendar/Meeting info. Does
anybody understand the relationship between a TWIG Email Group
and a TWIG Calendar/Meeting group?

Hello,
I am about to implement a webmail service for students in a school
division that has about 10000 students .... okay it is a small
school division. I am looking for something that has a variety of
requirements:
1) Will have password synchronization between the NT doamin users
and the webmail server users.
2) Has a filter for scanning for any inappropriate material like
porn, and will filter it out and send a report back to the
administrator on these instances of the content of reciever and
sender.
3) Easy to use interface that elementary students can use.
4) Would prefer it to run on linux, but Windows Server 2003 will
work.
5) We are going to be buying a new server to run this with loads of
HD space.
6) No advertising on any of the web pages.
7) The ability to disable a email account without deleting it.
8) Would like to have some customization of the look (colors) of the
webmail client, and maybe insert a logo.
I know this is a tall order, but any help would be appreciated!

Hello All,
I was wondering if anyone has put a Web-based solution on top of the
built-in POP3/SMTP Server that Microsoft is shipping with Windows
2003 Server?
This would be a very nice, easy solution for the Small Office folks
that want Web-based access to their e-mail while on the road.
Thanks in advance.
Hello,
I am looking for a webmail (GPL if possible) which allows to sign
message with a certified private key (not PGP). Does a such tool exit
or is in project?
The best solution to me should be a solution which does not store
private keys in the web server.
Thanx,
Manu.
Hi,
Let me share my experience.
I run a mail server with some 1000 users & growing.
I needed:
* a web interface for IMAP
* that requires no database
* a free software.
After trying many, I found the following worth mentioning:
1. Postman (http://www.uv.es/postman/postman.html)
just needs a webserver with cgi capabilities
pros: extremely efficient - even on low hardware, no cookies
cons: difficult to install (need to configure & compile), can't
change mail password.
2. Squirrelmail (http://www.squirrelmail.org/)
needs a webserver with php capabilities
pros: terrific features with a whole bunch of plugins, easy install
(just needs to copy to web directory & edit config file), change
mail password.
cons: uses cookies for session management
(i'd problems only with IE 5 on Win 98 & Win 2K)
3. Ilohamail (http://www.ilohamail.org/)
needs a webserver with php capabilities
pros: no cookies, easy install (just needs to copy to web directory &
edit config file)
cons: can't change mail password.
I was using Squirrelmail for about an year. Now I changed over to
Ilohamail. Its running fine with no problems. Most of the users have
liked the new interface. Some still use the squirellmail interface.

Hi Daniel,
thanks first - I need a gnu app that's the thing.
I found an address:
http://dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Internet/Clients/Mail/Web-Based/
I think it's from the admin of this list which is exactly what I've
been looking for. I hope it's up to date enough :-)
I guess I will choose horde's IMP whith postfix and the cyrus imapd
- should be a good combo.
I have to set up a mailserver for a about 50+ users. The OS is Debian.
If anybody has suggestions for a better combo please let me know and
especially if there's any disadvantages regarding IMP.
Perhaps this is not the appropriate list to ask but still :-):
the cyrus-imapd supports sasl - is this superior ssl?
if I want to install the cyrus-imapd with sasl I have to install e.g.
open-ssl is there any other "module" I would have to install on a
debian system?
Is sasl supported by most of the mail-clients (e.g. netscape, sylpheed,
MS Outlook Express, etc.)
If I want additional pop3 support - do I just have to install the
cyrus-pop3d package?
thanks,
Tom(my)___
