So a few questions:
1) Can the existence of the MS-FPage-Extensions be ignored if they are not
to be used? Will the site with only static pages and images remain fully
functional?
Basically, this situation has too do with transfering the files up to the
server...it shouldn't matter whether you use MS-FP or WS-FTP.
So yes, the existence of the MS-FP extensions can be ignored. You pages that use
the static text and images should come up just fine as long
as you successfully transfer all your sites files up to the server.
Side Note: I personally think WS-FTP is by far better, and more reliable, then
any WYSIWYG editor with built in FTP functionality.
I currently use Dreamweaver 4.0 and the FTP functionality is EXTREMELY buggy. I
usually use WS-FTP for all my transfers. Also,
if you have to set chmod positions for scripts, WS-FTP allows you to do it, most
WYSIWYG editors don't.
2) What's the "FP-recovery" like, if I or someone else later wants to move
over to MS-FPage-Extensions and indeed WS_FTP had messed something up
which has to be fixed? I kinda' understand that the ISP simply
"re-installs" the extensions.
I'm not too familiar with the FP-recovery. You're best bet would be to go to
Microsoft's site and search for help on the subject.
3) Any specific tricks or cautions on the very-first login with WS_FTP?
Nope. WS-FTP is pretty strait forward. I use to to login to both site's using
MS-FP extensions and standard Linux and Unix boxes
and it works just fine.
Hope this helped out a bit.
