Hi - I posted this link on the WO Facebook page as well and thought Yahoo Group
members would enjoy it.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/hojong/5488442255/

It is the Horsehead Nebula taken with a new WO 151mm Astrograph refractor.

Sorry - I don't have more details on the new scope, but hopefully WO will
announce details soon.

Enjoy

Hi - I think it will be soon. I have the DDG focuser now and am testing it now
and so far it is a very nice focuser. Besides the nice DDG part of it that
will be useful for photographers, the actual focuser is smoother and more robust
than the original crayford style.

I have started writing a review and I will include a comparison to the original
WO Crayford with 2-speed upgrade, and the WO SCT Linear Power focuser which I
also have.

I plan to do a video review of it as well, once I have some time and it's not so
cold outside.

I think it will be a worthwhile upgrade for many.

Hi.

Very nice Horsehead.

But I do see diffraction spikes that looks worrying. Even in stars not so bright it seems.

From HIP26953 (not seen in the image), there seems to be a massive diffraction spike entering at the bottom of the image.

Is this due to the design or is possibly a flattener involved somehow?

Hi group,
im a very proud owner of a FLT-98 DDG OTA and in my opinin, the perfect
refractor in its range, well finished and very high quality lens.
As i do remote astrophotography, im looking for a motorised focuser or
another solution that fits to the FLT98 DDG and easy install.
What ideas o products do you recommend?.

I've just fitted a lakeside focuser to my FLT-132(with feathertouch) and I'm
very impressed. It is ASCOM compatible and so can easily be operated
remotely...and because it uses a serial connector can operate Orr great lengths.

Dear W.O. /Tim,

I bought your 110 FLT Triplet APO in February 2011, but only recently (7 March),
I was
able to celebrate "first light" with my new telescope. This is due to the
current poor weather conditions in the Netherlands......

I had read several reviews about it before I bought it, and I was very keen to
have my own experience.

I find the quality of your product extremely impressive, and I am (still today)
somewhat speechless about what I saw last night: M44, h+chi Per, M67, M42 never
seen before in such a crisp and sharp quality and, as far as I can judge,
outstanding imaging performance. I am very pleased with the incredible optics
and perfect mechanical engineering.

Best regards

Chris

If it is the current model M90 (2010-on) Yes the flattener will work.
If you bought a second-hand earlier version M90, no it won't.
Not sure what you mean by older type? P-flat3?

I got ripped-off when I bought the AFR-IV/P-Flat4 as it was advertised as
suitable for M90... now they don't include M90 on their site, but they do on
WOnline where it mentions "M90(2010)"

WO's scopes are great.. but their websites are full of dead links, non-existant
product(compare their two sites) and false information.
Worst of all, their products go through version changes but the name stays the
same. How hard is it to call the Megrez90 MkI, or MkII or MkIII?

They realy do need to lift their game to eliminate confusion.
That has not happened in the last 3 years though, so I'm not holding my breath
and I'm not buying WO products.. it's too risky.

Christian et al.

I have fitted a Skywatcher focuser and a Shoestring USB controller on a FLT132
equipped with the WO/FT 4" focuser. The operation is very easy and the device
works great.

I have posted photos (folder is "132 mm FLT with Skywatcher focuser" in the
photo section).

Since I took the pics, I have painted the silver bracket in black and replaced
the small allen screw that tightens the motor to the focuser axis by a bigger
one that allows a quick disconnect, mainly for moving the focuser by hand
through the opposite knob.

Hope this can help some.

Has anyone put a webcam behind a Powermate 4x on a FLT132? I am struggling a bit

Ideas welcome.

Hi Jean-Marie,

I am not sure that it'll work (although I did not try the combination 'naked'
webcam + powermate/Barlow lens).

What will work is the webcam (without lens) in the prime focus (no powermate),
or, powermate + eyepiece + lens for the webcam, i.e. the so-called "eye-piece
projection" method.

I have used my 4x Powermate on my refractors many times using the exact same camera and setup (no EP).  The scopes were different (A-P 155 and A-P Traveler) with no problems.  Depending on your subject the image can be faint and focus can be tricky.

I found the solution and the right adaptor's configuration. William you're
right, focus is tricky and has to be tested during daylight.

I've finally got around to running some of my images through CCD Inspector and
thought i'd share with you all the output.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/William-Optics/photos/album/3215557/pic/list?mode=\
tn&order=ordinal&start=1&dir=asc

One thing I have noticed is the improvements that the feathertouch focuser has
had over the original, and also an improvement in field flatness by machining a
spacer to ensure an accurate chip to lens difference for the TMB flattener.

Can I ask two questions though:

Firstly, I have assumed that the TMB flattener does just that...it flattens, it
doesn't change the focal length. Is that correct?

Secondly, does anyone have any suggestions how I can get this field even
flatter? 7-10% field curvature seems like a lot to me!

Am I just worrying too much? Is this where temperature of the setup will start
to have more of an impact?

I look forward to hearing from you all.

BTW, if williams wanted to send me a new DDG to compare with this set up I'd be
happy to post some test results up.

Cheers,

Michael

maybe it would benefit from a small sub-aperture mask?

150mm is quite a lot of glass for f5.2.

I would love to get hold of one of these beauties....someday maybe...someday!

Keep them coming though guys...if I ever win on the lottery I'll come and pick
it up in person!

Best wishes and clear skies

William hasn't posted official specifications yet, but I believe it is a special
5 element design. My guess is that it incorporates a built in flattener/reducer
of sorts, which allows it to operate at F/5.2 and produces such a nice image
without the field curvature inherent in standard refractor designs.

No idea if a Feather Touch will be included or available yet.

If I get any more of the specs from William I will post them.

It does look to be a very well corrected and flat image from the ones posted so
far from this early model.

Subject: Megrez 88 rotatable focuser not aligned ?

Hi,

I am quite new on this forum,
Being owner of a megrez 88 for one Year, I was almost satisfied.

But I noticed that when rotating the focuser, the star that I centered in the
eyepiece, was shifting a lot ...
I discovered some play in the rotating focuser, and searching on this forum I
saw that I have to take care about the 3 screw around the focuser, not only the
one to block it.
I tried to recover the alignment, but I did not succeeded... so far.

Any idea, abut how to manage this issue ?
What about the other screw on the focuser ?
How to proceed for good alignment ?

Best regards
Thank you for any help
Sorry for my french english...

Bon soir Dominique,

I had the same problem with my flt 98.Strange photo,s came up

I just locked the three bolts quite tight and will never loosen them again (don’t need it ,I can rotate the camera on the FF))

I changed the 3 bolt in bigger ones,

Check here to see my solution:2nd  pic
