RE: [Wireless World] bridging WiFi between buildings

Hey Rick,

Not sure if you remember me or not. I worked for ACS Dataline with Lynn at the
Greeley HP right before it shut down. Wireless World is a group I read on so
when I saw your name a light came on. I have got to run to meet a customer so I
haven¢t taken a chance to read up on what was suggested for you to do here. I
assuming that you have a AP or AP/router of some sort in your house. So for a
client at the shop to put on the outside of the building all you need is a
client radio with an integrated antenna. Most are POE so all you have to do is
run one Cat5 cable to it and you¢re up. Configure the client radio with the
proper settings for your AP and you¢re done..

I am IT consulting these days and I do allot of point to point and point to
multi point wireless networks for private business use. Couple of my longer
links are around 17 miles. I from time to time run into a scenario just like
yours and a client radio with a 12-19 dbi gain antenna is more than enough. That
client radio can then be plugged into a workstation, camera, switch or even a
router if you want to have that side of the network blocked from the house. And
with a built in antenna it eliminates you the hassle of getting coax ran, and
finding the right connectors and crimp tools. Not to mention @ 2.4ghz you lose a
lot of signal strength through your coax depending on the length of the run.

Let me know if you have problems tracking down a radio. I have one on hand that
requires a external antenna but I have one of those too. And can order anything
you might need and most of the time have it up the next day from the warehouse
in Denver.

Thanks, Chris.

That's the solution I was looking for.

Two AP's set in "bridge" mode, use out door units with integral antennas.
