Re: [A12n-Collab] Tuxpaint in Songhay   Message List

Thanks for sharing this, Friedel. Is it available for download yet & where?

A couple of quick thoughts:

First, given the closeness of Songhay varieties in Mali with Songhay and Zarma
(aka Djerma) in western Niger and Dendi in northern Benin (technically all
"southern Songhay"), I wonder how easy it would be to adapt this localization
for those locales. Zarma has a very significant number of speakers (see
http://www.panafril10n.org/PanAfrLoc/SonghaiZarma )

Second, although I don't have any personal experience with TuxPaint, I
understand that there are not too many lines to translate in order to localize
it. What about the possibility for a "100 localizations" of TuxPaint project
along the lines of the 100 locales effort underway with ANLoc?

Dear Bill,

First, as we are beginning a new year, I would like to take the opportunity to
wish you and the TuxPaint team a happy 2009.
Secondly, I am very happy to submit you an updated version of the Songhay
translation.
I am also pleased to mention that this revision was undertaken following a
workshop my colleague Mohomodou had held recently in Mali on our localization
works with key players in promoting the Songhay language.
They
were very happy and excited when they saw the screenshot of Tuxpaint in Songhay.
It has been decided thus to revise the translation to make it more accessible to
children.
The excitement was also relayed on local radio stations as when it comes out,
Tuxpaint will be the first ever kids software in Songhay and for all, a tool
that will allow kids in the region to be familiar with computers while learning
to be creative. We are confident that it will create more excitements in the
schools.

Please find attached the revised version of the Songhay translation.

Again, many thanks in advance.

Regards,
Abdoul
