Well, now you can with "At Your Command."

By having the commands that you use most often in

FRONTPAGE Resources Webring
http://accessfp.net/frontpagewebrings.htm
I have taken over the old FrontPage Resources
Webring run by the late Paul Vineburg. If you
have a FrontPage Resource site apply for
membership, please check the requirements for
joining first.

I was having trouble visualising how Divs in CSS
worked Shelly kindly explained it to me.
How does one make a table (for example) with
three cells but use divs in CSS to do this?
Imagine your website is a piece of paper, laying
on your coffee table. Draw a picture on the piece
of paper, and that's the background on your
page. Now, if you were going to go about it the
good ol' table route, you'd draw boxes in pencil,
insert what you wanted into those boxes, then
erase the pencil. All on one piece of paper.

Now, with div layers:

Your background is on the plain piece of paper.
In css, this layer is called "z-index:0". Now, you
want something on top of that, say a block of
text on the far right of the piece of paper. You
lay another sheet of paper on top of the first, and
write your text on it. (in CSS, this is "z-index:1;
right:0px"). But you look at it, and decide you
don't like the text where it is, so you slide the
paper over to your left, and make the text on the
left side instead of right (instead of "right: 0px;"
it's "left: 0px;"). Now you want a pretty pale box
somewhere - so you take a pink sheet of paper
and lay it on top of the other two sheets (in
CSS, "z-index:2")....

This is why div layers cannot be confined inside
of a table cell - it's a separate layer on top of the
bottom sheet of paper. A table tag will always
default to the bottom layer, and you cannot
confine something in an upper layer to the table
cell on the bottom layer - it's really confusing to
browsers. However, you *can* put a table cell
inside of a div layer - since you're telling the
table to rest on a certain layer instead of
allowing it to default.

================================
4.     TIP & TRICK
================================

Are you a webmaster that uses no right click
code on your site? Consider the following.

If so you might like to enable those people that
can't surf your site and buy your products to do
so and thereby increase your own revenues.

Principally you use the 'no right click' to deter
thieves, correct?

Of course you know and I know that if a thief is
determined enough they will steal your content
anyway. That the no right click code is
completely useless because they are so many
ways around it.

1. Turn of JavaScript usage in the browser.
2. Do Print Screen shot from the keyboard.
3. View the source and surf directly to the image file.

and many more.

If you feel the need to have some measure of
protection from the casual thief this elegant
solution not only allows this but also cuts down
your page load time.

Configure either a cell or table to show a
background graphic.

In the table or cell where you want your graphic
to show up right click and choose either cell or
table properties.

On the properties dialog box that pops up click
'Use background Picture' and either insert the
path or browse to the graphic.

The graphic will tile so you may need to add a
surround in your graphics program to blend in
with your background if the table or cell has to
be a certain width.

NOTE: You may find that the 'Use Background
Picture' feature is greyed out. This is because
FrontPage has been set to not show features
Netscape can't view. Though in this case merely
inserting a graphic into the table or cell or
pressing the spacebar once will enable
Netscape to see the background of the cell or
table.

To enable compatibility in FrontPage do the
following. Go to: Tools | Page Options |
Compatibility Tab | set all boxes to custom and
tick everything click ok and say yes when it
asks to refresh your web.

Now that you have your graphic selected in your
table or cell properties box press ok. You may
need to drag the sides of the cell or table in or
out to view one image from the tiled graphics.
As I said above you may need to add a surround
to make it blend well.

Next you need to insert a transparent gif into the
cell or table. This enables you to do a few other
things. You can insert a alt tag onto the gif
which will describe the graphic in the cell or
table. You need to make a transparent graphic
in your graphic program to fit into the table or
cell that won't push the sides of the table or cell
out.

Now when someone right clicks to save the
graphic all they will see is a blank graphic when
they view it. So you do not have to use the 'No
right click' code in order to achieve a false sense
of protection against those people who are not
computer savvy enough to understand that there
are ways around it. What you have achieved is
accessibility for ALL your visitors and increased
sales there by, many people who are not in dire
need of the accessibility help that uses the right
click feature will by moral standards pass your
site by because it's in use.

Using the table trick works for everyone
concerned so think again about using the 'no
right click' code, not only will your visitor count
increase you will be doing your bit for
accessiblity and useibility.

Now if the above has not convinced you and
your still determined to use the 'No right click'
script. Consider instead of using the 'No right
click on images' script instead. See:

Mobile WML Converter - NEW FREE ADD-ON
http://accessfp.net/accessfpjournal/re/aaa.htm
The WML (Wireless Markup Language) protocol
is specifically designed for browsing by wireless
mobile devices such as wireless phones. The
tool recursively searches through the folders of
the HTML Web site you specify when you run
the tool, reading the contents and hyperlinks
contained in the site's HTML files. The tool then
creates WML card files from the contents and
hyperlinks discovered during the search, and
stores the converted files in the destination
directory that you enter. It does not modify your
HTML source files.

Mobile HTML Optimizer - NEW ADD-ON
http://accessfp.net/rd/ms1.htm
Small information appliances and mobile devices
such as smart phones and mobile PDAs are
more and more widely in use to access Web
content. However, because most Web pages
are designed for desktop PCs with large
displays in mind, it is cumbersome to browse
these Web pages on a mobile device with a
small screen. This tool automatically adapts the
web pages of a static Website according to the
target mobile device's screen size.

head section of your page. Now you have the
option to add these functions to an external text

head section smaller.

1.    TINA'S BLOG:
================================

Well I've been having a fine time these past few
months. What with my hosting problems and a
few virtual parties.

This issue has been delayed somewhat while
that's been going on then I decided to try and
learn CSS and apply it to the new online version
of this Journal, tell me what you think.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year -
hopefully.

First about the hosting. I've had six yes you read
that right the first time, six hosts in the past
five months.

My first host had a stroke (Hope your doing
better Jim). He resold for CIS and they also
decided at the same time to shut down and
outsource. So I started up at their new servers
which were UNIX, now having started off at
easyspace.com a couple of years ago I knew
UNIX does not like FrontPage sites that are
heavy in mbs. At around 30mbs even my new
hosts could not stop the error messages and
decided I would be better off on their old
windows servers till I could find a new host, after
all they were not shutting down till January, but
forget to tell me the nice new high price. So I
moved to webstrikesolutions.com and they were
great only $30 for the first year. However only
2gb for bandwidth and for some reason my site
has started to grow in the hits department so I
ended up paying for another 2gb of bandwidth
last month. Sigh, time to move again.

This time off to chambergates.com after a list of
things going wrong there like no setup for five
days, no emails being answered for seven and I
could not publish without timeouts, I decided I
would have to look again for host number six.
Chambergates came good in the end though
they refunded all my host fee and my setup fee
all ended well apart from the headaches I was
getting from the stress!

Now I'm at http://winsave.com the best host I've
had since Jim. Welcome email after five
minutes, fast publishing, unlimited bandwidth,
databases even, asp the best control panel with
great faqs and a very neat site and what's best a
rolling promotion (though it could end at any
time) for no setup fee with one month free, so for
my first three months hosting I get to host my
site for the grand sum of $19:95. Thankyou
winsave I can now relax, Sigh!

Though there two things that I don't like. No
custom 404 page and the stats are not the best
but you cannot have everything.

Now on to the good bit:) The virtual parties we
had at anyfronpage.com , accessfp's sister site
which I co-edit with Tiffany and Fran. We had
two parties one for the first birthday of
AnyFrontPage Bytes Ezine 11th Oct. The
second in honour of Tiffany being made a
Microsoft MVP - FrontPage. A fine time was had
by all and you can read more about the parties here:
http://anyfrontpage.com/mvp/
http://anyfrontpage.com/afpparty2002/

We also decided to cut down the ezine to once
a month instead of bi-weekly, but that is so we
can bring you more goodies next year, we are
working on them:).

DID YOU KNOW... that AccessFP Journal can
now be read online? Just pop along to:
http://accessfp.net/accessfpjournal/

Did you also know that AccessFP Journal
has it's own FrontPage List? No? Well check it out.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AccessFPList

BTW if you link your site to mine let me know
you might get featured in the linkback section. If
you have a FrontPage crafted site check out
the, Crafted With FrontPage section.
http://accessfp.net/submitcraftedwithfrontpage.htm

I had to take down the Crafted section at one
point as it was getting spammed, and has been
over the past year. So I finally decided enough
as enough and I've changed it so that would be
crafters have to submit an email, instead of
being able to see their site instantly. The few
spoil it for the many I'm afraid. If you want your
site included read the rules and send me an
email.

That's all folks till next publish. Remember I
only publish when I've updated the site and have
something to say. No fixed publish times. If you
want to give me feedback about the Journal or
just ask a question email me at:
journal@...

This page leads to four generation tools for your
use which is FREE. (You can see them listed
above under new pages)
Flash, Graphic and dhtml-css generators and

frustration of crafting those scripts.

================================
4.     TIP & TRICK
================================

COPYRIGHT AND FRONTPAGE

-Updating your copyright dates for the new year
with FrontPage.

If any of you have copyright meta tags.

e.g. <meta name="copyright"
content="Copyright © 1999 - 2002, Tina Clarke.
All rights reserved">

The quickest and easiest way to update them is
to use the Free FrontPage Add-on TP_ErrOmi
from http://solution-shelf.com You enter the info
you want and test your web. ErrOmi will tell you
all the pages where it needs changing (which is
all of course)

NOTE: Unless you have excluded the page, it
will update any of your customised templates
for new pages too.

If you also have the copyright on the page in
normal view, use Find and Replace to change
this throughout your web.

How to Find and replace text.

On the Edit menu, click Replace.
Click All pages.
In the Find what box, type the text you want to
search for. - This will be the old copyright dates.
In the Replace with box, type the replacement
text. - This will be in the new copyright dates.
Click Find in Web.
When FrontPage lists the pages in which the
text was found, do one of the following:

To open a page in Page view, double-click the
page in the list. The first instance of the text is
highlighted.

You can click Replace to replace this
occurrence, click Find Next to find the next
occurrence, or click Replace All to replace all
occurrences in the current page.

When you have reviewed all occurrences of the
text in the page, you are prompted to close the
current document before continuing to the next
one.

NOTE: If changes were made, your page is
automatically saved.

Though next revamp think about using either an
include page ( For how accomplish this see:
http://accessfp.net/frontpageincludedcontent.htm )
that might include other static information (for
most of the year) like your email address and
links to disclaimers and Privacy Polices.
Or the substitution feature which will update a
small amount of information.

How to use the Substitute Component.

In Page view, on the Tools menu, click Web
Settings, and then click the Parameters tab.
Click Add.
In the Name box, type a name for the variable.
This is what you will call the variable.

In the Value box, type a value for the variable.
This is what will be displayed on the page.

Click OK.
Position the insertion point in a page where you
want to display the variable.
On the Insert menu, click Web Component.
In the left pane, click Included Content, and in
the right pane, double-click Substitution.
In the Substitute with box, click a variable from
the list.

You can find out more about Copyright here:

2.    FEATURED IN ACCESSFP
================================

The featured page this issue is
http://accessfp.net/netstudiotutorial.htm
Which is also a new page.

NetStudio is not like other Graphic programs it
is like a Super Graphics Application Add-on for
FrontPage. The format and layout are just like
FrontPage and the application was made to fit
with FrontPage, not even the ill fated Image
Composer and PhotoDraw come as close as
NetStudio does. I've got the premium version
and I've been playing all this week making
images once you start you just can't stop.

I highly recommend Netstudio and so I've
secured for AccessFP Journal members and
AccessFP site visitors a $10 reduction in the
price for a limited period. You can download a
trail version and try it out if you decide to buy
and want the $10 OFF buy through this link only
or you don't get the reduction.
https://www.netstudio.com/secure/promo.asp?p=21718

I've also managed to talk Raj Vij the owner of
NetStudio into writing the first of a series of
tutorials on graphics in general. This is the first
part an introduction if you like. Enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Picture a barren landscape.
by Raj Vij
Picture a barren landscape, much like the desert
wasteland of Tatooine from the popular Star
Wars movies. Sand dunes, lazily skimmed away
as the afternoon sun emits shadows on the
"wrong" side of the dunes; nothing but swirling
sand and sweltering heat. There are no trees or
water in sight. No mirage even. This is your Web
page made with FrontPage.
Contrast this with an oasis: voluptuous waterfalls
happily roaring into pools of deep blue, luscious
grass, coconut palms swaying in a cool breeze,
perhaps even a tropical bar. This is your Web
page made with FrontPage and NetStudio Easy
Web Graphics. Which location do you think has
a higher number of visitors?
Exactly.
A text only Web site can be a big turn off for the
majority of Internet surfers. FrontPage bridged
the void of HTML and text. Once you have
created all the pretty tables and text for your site
and saved them as HTML, you are still only half
done. How do you help your users navigate?
Buttons. How do you make your site appealing?
Graphics.  How do you advertise your site?
Banners. How do you establish an identity for
your site? Logos. How do you make all of these
if you have zero artistic skill? NetStudio.
We can all agree a Web site with plain text is
highly unappealing. More likely than not, you will
simply hit the "back" button. Your visitors are no
different. Your Web site needs to come to life, in
order to grab their attention and direct them to
purchase your wares or read the information you
have worked so hard to provide. To say stunning
graphics on a Web site is a must is like saying
you need to breathe to live.
Unfortunately, the creation of such said graphics
is not as obvious! NetStudio realized that
FrontPage left a void with its popular HTML
creation tool and it decided to create a
companion product that, together with
FrontPage, would be all an individual with no
prior Web experience needed, in order to create
a professional looking Web site.
Ever wanted to do drop shadows, emboss,
collages, fades in FrontPage? All can be done
with just 1 click in NetStudio. While FrontPage
provides templates, they are amateur at best.
Not only does NetStudio come with over 100
professionally designed templates to start you
off, each aspect of a template, be it a banner or
font, can be mixed and matched to create your
own perfect custom look. Did we mention you
can create your own templates, too?
Ladies and Gentlemen, this is only the tip of the
iceberg. Stay tuned next time to learn more
about this EASY to use program that delivers
professional results. Or, you can log onto:
3.     TIP & TRICK
================================
Other files types and FrontPage.
If you have a PowerPoint presentation, Excel
Sheet or any other MS software product output
that can create HTML pages you can create
instant content in your FrontPage site by saving
the output as a HTML document.
Go to File | Save As rather than Save and
change the file type to .htm and navigate to the
FrontPage web you want the HTML document
saved in.
Then add a link from a page in the FrontPage
web. Click the Hyperlinks icon and browse for
the file in the website.
The output does not have to be from another
Microsoft Product this will work with any
software that creates HTML pages.
First let me say welcome to the first issue of
report.
The whole of AccessFP.net has had a revamp
The colour scheme, the layout and the menu
system are all new.
There are many new pages and changes to
content as well. There is too much to go into so
lets start with this new look and I will report
changes henceforth.
I would love your feedback about the site.
3.     TIP & TRICK
================================
FrontPage 2002 - Adding text balloons to graphics
Whilst in Page View click the Drawing Icon
(looks like an A with two shapes) This will bring
up the Drawing toolbar.
Choose AutoShapes | Callouts and select a
shape.
Position the cursor where you want the balloon to
appear and click to insert. Tip you can move
after insertion so don't worry if it's not exactly
right. Next click the text balloon to select it and
then click Fill Color icon on the Drawing toolbar
and choose the colour you want to fill the balloon
with. Position the cursor where you want to start
typing in the text area of the callout balloon and
type or paste your text in.
Until now, developing PHP based web sites with
a WYSIWYG HTML editor was a multi-stepped
process. You'd need to layout your pages, open
them in a text editor, add your PHP code,
upload them to the server, test your pages, then
repeat the process until you got it right. Now,
with the PHP Rocket Add-in for FrontPage, you
can do all your PHP development from
FrontPage and preview the PHP'd pages right in
FrontPage's Preview window.
================================
Each issue we feature a site that links back to
AccessFP.
This issue we feature Microsoft's new
FrontPage community link website.
http://www.microsoft.com/frontpage/community/related
Microsoft FrontPage recently had a revamp of
their own and this new link is just one of them.
It's different in the fact that it links back to
AccessFP which has first place in the listing.
Yes I know it's a-z listing but that just means I
was clever enough to think about alphabetical
listings before I bought my domain name
<smile> Sometimes forethought does pay off.
Microsoft FrontPage also recently changed the
name of their Microsoft FrontPage Bulletin to
FrontPage Fanzine with a new url.
We are all one big community in FrontPage.
