couple of times I though the program had frozen, but with a little patience I
found it was taking over 12 minutes with the hourglass cursor before the report
got started.

Hi,
I have bought AceMoney some months ago and have a very high opinion of it.
HOWEVER, do not leave Money yet. I had to keep on going using it and wait for
Acemoney to get some features arranged.
I use Money for personal (several years of data) and business (school).
As I wanted a program in spanish I came to Acemoney after evaluating 10-12
programs. It is the best effectively.
Some problems
1) the biggest: Reports!!!! (Money is far, but far superior, no way to compare).
Acemoney still promises to work on that (for several years if I understood an
old user who claimed so)
2) A misunderstood problem for Excel lovers. Even Money cannot get the data or
help you analyse it. So it is a must to get all transactions (not filtered or
filtered) into Excel.
PROBLEM in Acemoney: transfers are one line operation in AceMoney (absurd) while
they are two lines (two accounts, two amounts) in Money which is correct to see
the balance of several accounts. The people at Acemoney do not see the problem
as I do and are not considering (unless new design decisions) to change that.
PROBLEM in Money: Splits are not opened (detailed) in the same report (all
transactions), which lead only to some few inconsistency but is rather
unimportant compared to having account balances completely wrong in Acemoney.
3) Printing is poor in AceMoney.
4) IN MONEY, I have 5,000 lines. If I ask Account Transactions, with All
accounts and all dates, it takes 40 secs to 1 minute to build. I didn't try in
AceMoney. (Files in Money are always big, so it is not an issue). If I ask for
dates=previous year, I get my report in 2 secs. It is a little confusing.
I have a Notebook HP Compaq NW9440, Centrino (Intel) Duo 1.83 GHz, Windows XP
Pro SP2, Office XP (2002) SP3, 2 G memory.
(its the only Notebook I know that runs the Flight Sim X from Microsoft as
smoothly as real life, all details nearly to the maximum!!!)
4) I am recently getting into the investments functions in both systems because
I need to follow better what my broker is doing. I have a slight problem in
Acemoney where in one portfolio (account) i cannot have different currencies..
That could be an issue.
I have an account with actions (investments) in EUR and USD and CH, another one
with EUR, USD, YEN so I am unable to keep track as my paper info I get per
account is giving me.
I will try Money to see if it is the same case.
Resume:
AceMoney is probably the simplest program to use to get your data in, but is bad
at getting your data (reports) out. You need to go from the big picture inside
or transversal or from detail to the big picture. That is why columnasr reports
are so important.
I always use an Excel report
By Category, subcategory, and on a period year to date
like:
Bill jan feb mar abr Total
water 10 5 12 15 42
electr 5 5 3 5 18
....
....
TOTAL 125 120 156 210 1200
BIG PICTURE with all details I need.
This is VERY usefull in presentations, board meetings etc where I can change a
report on the fly and answer questions instantly
This is not a possibility for AceMoney at present time
For personal use, AceMoney can be the choice for its simplicity, which is a
blessing!
The have done a tremendous good work, Money will disappear soon so the only
serious enemy remains Quicken de Luxe.... I hope AceMoney will win!!!
So keep working in Money, but continue to evaluate AceMoney each time a new
version comes out. It might surprise us all.
Best regards
Thomas
