The purpose of the
Alachua County EMWIN Project (AC-EMWIN) is to disseminate weather-related bulletins and (some) graphics to the general public FREE, at no cost, as a public service. The project was created in 2003 when Project Manager Todd L. Sherman / KB4MHH was offered the earth-station equipment by the Florida Division of Emergency Management. As of 2009, the project has been in faithful operation for over six years. NOAA/NWS bulletins are downloaded from GOES satellites and they are immediately redistributed by various means. The bulletins are available to anyone currently residing in the local Alachua County (and surrounding) area. The AC-EMWIN Project has served civilian, government, and even military users.
The purpose of this LIST is to be an additional method of distribution of news and information regarding the AC-EMWIN Project, as well as to offer a platform for discussion of anything EMWIN- or especially AC-EMWIN-related.
Currently, our text bulletins can be delivered in their entire long form, or in short, abbreviated form to email, FAX, pager, cellphone, PDA, listgroups, and web pages. But bulletins available to pager/cellphone are limited to severe weather-related bulletins only due to the sheer number of bulletins that can end up being sent out when severe weather comes.
