Probably the biggest area of concern will be lack of support for classic ASP. 
You're seeing that yourself by stating the lack of material and references on
the web.
 
I loved classic ASP and it was a hard transition but I do find so many things
easier in .net. 
 
And to repeat what Mark said below...if you plan on doing this career-wise, it
certainly wouldn't hurt to expand your skill set and jump in to the .net world
for that reason alone.  You can still code in classic ASP but knowing other
technologies can only help.

I think if you intend to do it for a living, then yes, it's essential.

I don't do web stuff for a living, so I've never bothered. Like you, I find
classic ASP to be perfect for my needs. I'm very comfortable with it, and
understand its foibles well.

For me, the .Net world, or maybe even the programming world in general is deeply
embroiled in what I call 'code snobbery': Everything is encapsulated, factored
to the point of stupidity, and generally more complex than it needs to be.

I'm 37 and I regularly point out the younger chaps at work that we did just fine
without classes in the 80's!

I regularly peer review code (not web stuff) and I always comment on code that
is wrapped in a class for no reason (i.e only one instance of it). It's 'wrong'
per-se, but it can lead to code snobbery and confusing, bloated code!

Anyway, I'm getting off the point. Classic ASP's simplicity is it's strength.
It's so simple to connect it to a database it's unreal, and very easy to learn.

I have no plans to ditch classic ASP!

I think it will be around for a long time yet, there must be millions of lines
of code out there!

I've become pretty proficient with ASP. I find coding with it to be
nearly as easy as it is to converse with people. It is so simple to
learn and to use. I find the simplicity to be elegant. I've written
many scripts and even some tutorials.

My daughter is a web admin/programmer for a large organization and she
taught herself .NET. She says I would be surprised at how easy it
really is.

But I really don't have to time to devote to becoming as competent
in .NET as I am in ASP.

I've noticed lately that when googling for code bits and tutorials on
ASP, that most of the results returned by google are for .NET.

Is there a compelling reason to learn and use .NET. Is classic ASP here
to stay?
