Greetings,
I am preparing a dissertation proposal on an international NGO/aid
organization. I will be looking at the way the organization and its
donors (upstream) construct concepts like 'civil society,' 'community
development' and 'participation' and then re-examine these notions as
they are translated and mediated in the field (downstream). I will
be using elements of ANT as well as Foucault's notion
of 'governmentality.' Other than grant applications and project
proposals which are mundane but important examples of technology,
there is no explicitly technological objects in the study. I mention
this because it seems that most but of course not all research in the
ANT vein usually has a strong focus on some bit of technology.
Are there other doctoral students out there who are using ANT without
having an explicit focus on technology ? Also are there other
scholars out there looking into questions involving aid delivery,
community development, capacity builiding,and NGOs?
regards
