When you read the ruling you have to just sit back and scratch your head and
seriously wonder what all this nonsense was all about.

Thanks for that... Good news at last.

Hi

http://os4.hyperion-entertainment.biz/

Hyperion Entertainment CVBA and Amiga Inc. reach settlement

Brussels, Belgium – October 17, 2009

Hyperion Entertainment CVBA is pleased to announce that on September 30,
2009, it has reached a comprehensive settlement agreement with Amiga,
Inc., Itec LLC and Amino Development Corporation, Inc., to bring all
ongoing litigation and worldwide pending procedures between the parties
to an end.

As part of the settlement agreement, the Amiga Parties acknowledge that
Hyperion is the sole owner of AmigaOS 4 without prejudice to any third
party rights.

Within the framework of the settlement agreement Hyperion is granted an
exclusive, perpetual, worldwide right to AmigaOS 3.1 in order to use,
develop, modify, commercialize, distribute and market AmigaOS 4.x (and
subsequent versions of AmigaOS including without limitation AmigaOS 5)
in any form, on any medium and for any current or future hardware
platform under the exclusive trademark “AmigaOS” (Amiga operating
system) and using other associated trademarks (such as the “BoingBall”
logo).

Hyperion will continue development and distribution of AmigaOS 4.x (and
beyond) as it has done since November of 2001.

We wish to thank our loyal customers who have supported us throughout
the judicial procedures and especially the AmigaOS 4.x development team
for their continued efforts and at the request of whom this official
announcement was made.

As Hyperion Entertainment’s most ambitious project to date is drawing to
a close in collaboration with our partners, we invite our current and
prospective customers to watch this space for further updates on
Hyperion’s continued efforts to revive the Amiga platform.

I remember when I was in college, back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth,
a friend of mine built a capacitor cannon.  He had a copper pipe he
dropped them into, with an electrode at the end of the pipe, and the
pipe forming the other pole, and he connected the two electrodes to an
old telecom power supply (48 Volts, lots of Amperage), but backwards.
After a few seconds, the capacitor would explode out, with a trail of
foil and paper uncoiling from the cap.

I doubt that.

Touchscreen is useless and can be very sensitive. Even some unseen dirt can
cause it to 'detect a press' which on apps I have seen can cause them to appear
to freeze/crash. Unless you are aware of 'dirt issues' it can be annoying.
I have plenty of touchscreen equipment at work and for me I'd prefer a keyboard
everytime.
Also, keyboards (and keys) are pretty easy to replace, but if a touchscreen
fails then you are pretty stuffed as you'd have to be an electronics wizz to
remove and replace it.
Touchscreen has been around for 10+ years and if it was to replace keyboards it
would have done so already.

It's like the new 3D TV's, it's a novelty which I can't see becoming mainstream.
Great for cinema's, but not for the home.

Andrew B

Why? Surely the best way for users of a mail program to communicate is
via a mailing list. Using a web forum doesn't say much about the
capabilities of the mailer...

That's a poor reason not to vote. Not voting really should
be a consequence of not agreeing with any of the arguments
put forward. For my part I have long held the view that we
have totally the wrong mechanism for generating politicians
and decision makers. But thats another issue. Whether
to vote or not has equal importance. As long as its
considered and not just being lazy and apathetic.

As Neil says, in not voting you do actually vote. Important
that.

Where was I..... ?

You do vote, you're voting for whoever the majority of others who can
be bothered to vote choose. That's how democracy is supposed to work,
where the choice to leave the decision to others is a valid option. Of
course, lots of people do vote, and every one of those is one person.

We have it in us all to make a difference. And together we
can achieve far more. One of the great qualities of the
Amiga community was/is the feeling that you truly were/are
contributing to the greater benefit of all. The best example
of this being PD and say Aminet. I do not believe that
in the vast abyss that is current computing the user does
feel he/she can make a difference. And yet the Amiga
still throws up opportunities ... like with the MiniMig.
We may be struggling against impossible odds but in a
way that makes the joy of being involved with the Amiga
even more rewarding. Being a survivor I believe has a
far deeper meaning than you perceive from Eric Schwartz'
war cry.

Well, when it comes to voting I do agree with you (which is why I
never vote). But when it comes to rero computers and software one
person can make a difference. Wandering a touch OT, 3 guys have
created some cool modern tech for the C64:

1) SX64 - various kit allowing modern joypads (SNES,NES,PS2 etc.) to
connect safely to a C64

2) Shredz64 - a Guitar Hero clone for the C64, with a special device
to let you plug in the Guitar Hero guitar (I think - certainly a games
guitar) to play it

3) Cameron Caisers HyperLink software - a web browser for the C64. He
also runs a Gopher server, and wrote a Gopher plug-in (called
Overbite) for FireFox 2 & 3.

Aha! Here-in lies the difference between us, because I've
always been of the belief that the opposite is true. That's
not to say I want an argument or anything like that, I just
happen to be one of those who believes his vote amidst
millions of others is insignificant.

Your link is a bit suspect (i.e. appears to rely on users
being logged in as yourself) but assuming this is what you
meant http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=9mg6wrYCT9Q then thanks!
I always admired that boy's talent and to see a video of his
using the music of Jonathan Coulton has made my day :-)

Yes, but the editor (Robert Williams) had been publishing the magazine
for 7 years before deciding he wanted to work on other things. He
didn't write the magazine on his own, but he couldn't find anyone
willing to take over the job :(

No, but the Amiga isn't mainstream anymore. The fact that the
magazines exist shows how much interest in the Amiga still exists.
Total Amiga used to be printed in both the UK *and* the US.

Hehe, I hope Woolies survives, or atleast gets bought out. I own
shares in them ;) MFI might also go, but then so can any company big
or small in the current economic situation.

Thanks for the praise, Scuzz :)

Paul, it is possible for one person to make a difference. If someone
see's that I'm still interested in AMOS on the Amiga they will chip in
and discussions get started. Much the same has happened on this list,
if someone sparks a responce, the group will come back to life.
Interest in the Amiga will never die, even if it remains
non-mainstream. I suppose you haven't seen Eric Schwartz' recent (out
earlier this year) Amiga tribute video:
