Senior Web Designer – Short Contract to Hire Period – Herndon, VA

About the location: Northern, VA is a short drive from Washington,
DC, The Chesapeake Bay, beaches and mountains.
About the role: A senior web designer creates concepts, executes
designs, and maintains design concepts through all phases of a
project. This is a temp to perm position.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Produce graphic sketches, designs, and copy layouts for
online content.
• Gather creative requirements for projects and handle
creative-based facilitation of meetings.
• Liaison with project managers.
• Schedule design review phases with other senior designers
and managers.
• Assist in the development of proposals.
• Assist the Client Center with sales-related activities.
• Determine size and arrangement of illustrative material and
copy, select style and size of type, and arrange layout based upon
available space, knowledge of layout principles, and aesthetic
design concepts.
• Assist in developing and maintaining design guidelines and
methodology.
• Mentor designers and associate designers through project
phases.
• Be proactive in technology development and implementation
techniques.
• Develop in-house training courses/seminars as needed.
Skills and Experience
• 4+ years of experience in site development, UI, required.*
• 1-2 years of management experience preferred.
• Proficiency with Adobe PhotoShop/ImageReady, Adobe
Illustrator, Macromedia Flash, Macromedia Dreamweaver, and Quark
Express required.
• Technical Knowledge of multiple technologies including, but
not limited to, HTML, CSS, JavaScript/DOM scripting required.
• Firm understanding of website usability required.
• Familiarity with a variety of the field's concepts,
practices and procedures required.
• XML/XSL, Ruby, Ruby on Rails, PHP, JSP, ASP, interactive
multimedia authoring, audio/video editing experience a plus.
• Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently required.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent
experience preferred.
