Overall, not a bad introductory article. However, the lack of a reference to
Fowler's seminal book on refactoring (nor to any other work on refactoring
nor any of the many existing refactoring tools) bothers me. It leaves the
interested reader nowhere to go but Google.

BTW, there is nothing specific to java in the article.

Yes. There should also be a reference, IMHO, to www.refactoring.com as well. Not referencing existing work, particularly in spectacularly obvious cases like...

There seems to be a mention of "Fowler, p 60", but the reference itself is missing. Also, a mention to the "Design Patterns" (Gamma et all, 1994) work. Maybe...
