I am moderating a free online teaching session cum discussion on
"Introduction to Lean Thinking" as per the following schedule:
Date : 11th September 2008
Time : 07 PM
Duration : 45 minutes [can be extended]
You would need a headset, good quality Internet connection and latest
Flash enabled browser to attend the session.
As the session would be interactive, I would look forward to good
discussion around Lean Principles.
You can find more details at

teacher_Vikrama_Dhiman
If you would like to moderate an online discussion on a topic around
Agile/ Lean/ Software Development, please let me know.
Thanks
Vikrama Dhiman
As discussed with some group members, we would be having some
speakers from Chandigarh for this event. Please express your interest
in presenting on a topic of your choice in Agile. 1 hour presentation
with last 15 minutes being for Questions and Answers. We are looking at
3-4 presentations and all presentations would be peer reviewed
rigorously to maintain quality of the presentations.
Industry - Please express your interest in sponsoring the event [high
tea/ venue/ logistics] or equivalent amount. Contact me separately for
the same.
I look forward to energetic speakers and sponsors.
Could you please fill the attached questionnaire and return it to me?
Appreciate your help (in advance), which would really be helpful for me to complete my thesis. Should not take more than 10 minutes of your valuable time.
Thanks to those who were so kind to write to me. I thought it would be better to address the group en-bloc and request your 10 minutes.
As I requested in my previous mail, I would appreciate if you could fill the questionnaire and return to me. This would help me compile a good list of challenges and issues that Indian delivery companies are facing/would face, when working on offshore (e.g. UK) client projects.
Note: Knowledge of Agile is not required for this survey.
I would share my findings with those who respond.
Many thanks for your help and with regards,
Harjeet Singh

Agile Software Development is the hottest growing buzzword in the
Software Development Community. Variants of the approach [Lean] have
been used in manufacturing and services industry for decades now. Every
software professional and in fact every professional must have
knowledge about Agile. However, as per the feedback gathered at various
events I speak at, courses in Agile are often conducted assuming a very
knowledge audience and discuss very advanced topics.
In this
session, Vikrama Dhiman [Vik], will explain the history and foundations
of Agile. He will explain Agile assuming a beginners audience. Everyone
from freshers in IT Industry to students in schools can attend the
session and benefit from introduction to Agile. This would be followed
by a second part in which based on the foundations of this first
session, some advanced topics would be discussed.
This is a Live Webinar. You can view more details at http://www.wiziq. com/public/ session_details. aspx?detail= 20230_Agile- Introduction- for-Beginners- and-Dummies_ teacher_Vikrama_ Dhiman Registration is free and simple.
Dear Group Members,
I joined this group today and am delighted to be part of this Agile
group from Chandigarh, a city always close to my heart. I had been
working for PunCom till 97, before venturing out and have my parents
and in-laws here.
I work for Logica in London, UK as a Managing Consultant, and have been
working in the business management side of things in IT/Telcoms
development area. I am also pursueing my Exec MBA for which should be
putting in my dissertation work in a couple of months.
I am writing this to seek your help. My dissertation covers issues in
Agile Management when implemented in a Diverse environment,
specifically between India, for development and the customers in the UK.
I would like to send out an individual questionnaire to you, and would
like you to contribute. It should not take more than 10-15 minutes of
your valuable time and all responses would be confidential (as per
requirement of the survey).
In return, I promise to contribute to this group and share my findings
with those interested to know the outcome.
Could you please reply to me at singh_harjeet@... and I would
send out the questionanire?
Regards
Harjeet Singh

please spend 5 minutes............it's a humble request
Dear Friends ,
SPARE 5-MINUTES from your busy schedule .PLEASE !!!
Lt. Saurabh Kalia of 4 JAT Regiment of the Indian Army laid down his life at the young age of 22 for the nation while guarding the frontiers at Kargil. His parents, indeed the Indian Army and nation itself,
lost a dedicated, honest and brave son. He was the first officer to detect and inform about Pakistani intrusion. Pakistan captured him and his patrol party of 5 bravemen alive on May 15, 1999 from the Indian side of LOC.
They were kept in captivity for three weeks and subjected to unprecedentedbrutal torture, evident from their bodies handed over by Pakistan Army on June 9, 1999. The Pakistanis indulged in dastardly acts of inflicting burns on these Indian officers with cigarettes, piercing their ears with hot rods, removing their eyes before puncturing them and breaking most of the bones and teeth.
They even chopped off various limbs and private organs of the Indiansoldiers besides inflicting unimaginable physical and mental torture.
After 22 days of torture, the brave soldiers were ultimately shot dead. A detailed post-mortem report is with the Indian Army. Pakistan dared to humiliate India this way flouting all international norms.
They proved the extent to which they can degrade humanity. However, the Indian soldiers did not break while undergoing all this unimaginable barbarism, which speaks volumes of their patriotism, grit, determination, tenacity and valour - something all of India should be proud of.
Sacrificing oneself for the nation is an honour every soldier would be proud of, but no parent, army or nation can accept what happened to these brave sons of India. I am afraid every parent may think twice to send their child in the armed forces if we all fall short of our duty in safeguarding the PRISONERS OF WAR AND LET THEM MEET THE FATE OF LT.SAURABH KALIA.
It may also send a demoralising signal to the army personnel fighting for the Nation that our POWs in Pak cannot be taken care of. It is a matter of shame and disgust that most of Indian Human Rights Organisations by and large, showed apathy in this matter.
Through this humble submission, may I appeal to allthe civilized people irrespective of colour, caste, region, religion and political lineage to stir their conscience and rise to take this as a NATIONAL ISSUE !!!
International Human Rights Organizations must be approached to expose and pressure Pakistan to identify, book and punish all those who perpetrated this heinous crime to our men in uniform. If Pakistan is allowed to go unpunished in this case, we can only imagine the consequences.
Below is the list of 5 other soldiers who preferred todie for the country rather than open their mouths in front of enemy -
1. Sep. Arjun Ram s/o Sh. Chokka Ram; Village & PO
Gudi. Teh. & Dist. Nagaur, (Rajasthan)
Yours truly, Dr. N.K. Kalia (Lt. Saurabh Kalia's father).

Please sign in by writing your name and then copy and paste it again toforward it to your friends and relatives. Let us givea supporting hand to Dr. Kalia in his efforts to get justice.
Remember, Lt. Kalia and his colleagues died on thefront so that we could sleep peacefully in our homes.
PLEASE DON'T BREAK THE ONWARD MOVEMENT OF THIS MAIL. WE SEND ALL SORTS OF SILLY MAILS TO OUR FRIENDS WHICH
COMPEL ONE TO FORWARD BY SAYING THAT IT MAY HARM YOU IF YOU WON'T DO SO. BUT HERE IT IS NOTHING LIKE THAT, IT WILL ONLY BE YOU WHO WILL FEEL SATISFIED IF YOUWILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE CAUSE.

This was a fantastic event with everyone in the audience participating [yes finally an audience where everyone spoke] and openly questioned the speakers and others on various aspects. The session got off to a great start with Mayank providing his experience of working with distributed teams which the audience appreciated a lot. The maximum discussion centered around daily stand up, team organization and scrum of scrums. I spoke next on Introduction to Lean Thinking, which [self boast on] I think was one of the best talks I have given [self boast off]. The audience was receptive with hmmnn and nods on almost all the principles. Then followed what was the best BarCamp I have seen.
There were three topics proposed : Agile Causes Stress [Komal Surekha from Net Solutions], eXtreme Programming [Raminder from Quark], Agile in Living Better Life [Balneet from Quark]
and we had lots of participants, bumble bees and no butterflies. Each host attracted equal number of participants. Finally, all converged on Agile Causes Stress topic and the hosts did a great job of closing the topics.
The audience comprised of people from 06 companies and a total of 24 people attended the event. Quark provided great support by arranging the venue as well as snacks and logistics. Unfortunately, the post was blocked and we could not do Live Streaming. You can catch me today at same time if you are interested on the same URL for a discussion on Lean Thinking. We will get Mayank also to speak again Live for benefit of the audience.
A big thank you to ASCI, Mayank, Naresh, Balneet from Quark, WiZiQ.com for support through out the event. It was fantastic and I am just so thrilled with how everything shaped up.

Subject: Agile Community Event - Free Intro To Agile Workshop in Noida , 28th
June 2008
Hello,
The Agile NCR user group is announcing their first Community Event, a workshop
themed "Introduction to Agile" to be organized on 28th June. Registrations are
now open, there are no fees for participation but we would ask prior
registrations. Please visit http://agilencr.wikidot.com/events for registration.
Currently there are no limitations on the number of participants, but depending
on the venue we may decide to limit the numbers, in which case, preference will
be given to people who register earlier.
Why Should I attend?
If you are associated with developing software there are everyday problems which
must have made you ponder "is there a better way of building software?".
Consider this workshop to highlight the issues in software development and to
gain an introduction to Agile Software development.
What is different in this workshop?
This will be a hands on Introduction to Agile workshop that will benefit, a
agile newbie as much as an agile practitioner. The workshop will give you a
background of agile practices and expose you to SCRUM + XP the two leading agile
methods being practiced worldwide.
The Workshop format is interactive and the workshop will aim to equip the
participants with enough knowledge to get them started on their agile journey.
We are also planning an informal lunch and networking session for the agile
community.
Hmm... Free? whats the catch?
Normally this quality of workshops would cost you atleast Rs 5000 or upwards. So
why are we doing this? We are a bunch of agile software development enthusiasts
in the NCR region and would like to grow the community of agile practitioner's.
We sustain on corporate and individual sponsors who see value in supporting
these events, we are not out to make money. This is a for the community, by the
community and of the community event.
Great! so how do I sign up ?
Please visit http://agilencr.wikidot.com/events and register.
I am excited! How do I join this community?
There is nothing to join, you can become the part of the community by
volunteering to help organize events, meet ups, get sponsors and with other
sundry tasks. Stay tuned to http://agilencr.wikidot.com for updates. This is a
first in series community workshops from agilencr, we are subsequently planning
for similar workshops themed "Agile for Developers", "Agile for ToolSmiths",
"Agile for Project Managers" etc.

That's great!!!
Don't you all feel that we should increase the number of seats. I agree that its not easy to manage more people but let's try by putting few more seats. After the first agile session, I'm sure this time you will get more response and more peoples would be interested in it and 20 looks very small number at least to me.
Thanks,
Gaurav

After the first agile session, I'm sure this time you will get more response and more peoples would be interested in it and 20 looks very small number at least to me.
Thanks,
Gaurav

A not so silent revolution is taking place in the world of work. The tectonic plate of values and world-view is sifting.
Some interesting words have entered the vocabulary of IT professionals worldwide "Self Organizing, Collective Reflection, Community, Collaboration, Distributed, Volunteer, Open source, Freeware" Within organization the most rapidly growing group is of those born post 1982. The group is also known as Generation Y.
Gen Y people are ambitious, hopeful - and in a hurry."Generation Y is much less likely to respond to the traditional command-and-control type of management still popular in much of today's workforce," says Jordan Kaplan, an associate managerial science professor at Long Island University-Brooklyn in New York. "They've grown up questioning their parents, and now they're questioning their employers. They don't know how to shut up.."
Is it possible to manage 2.0 technology environment with old age management mindset??
Are you equipped to manage the free-agents and the knowledge nomads
Do you know how is generation Y different from generation X
What does it take to successfully manage in the world of 24X7
Are you aware about the value shift in software project management
Do you know what is common among:
Agile;
Open Source;
Grid Programming;
Web 2.0;
Generation Y
What does it take to lead in the rapidly changing world of software development?
Program Coverage
ÜEmerging values of software professional community
ÜFrame work of people management
ÜManager or community builder?
ÜPsychological underpinnings of M 2.0
ÜNew tools of management in community development context
The sessions are limited by seats available at Venue. We have total of 26 seats of which Quark has requested 06 being the hosts. That leaves us space for only 20 of which we have already got 04 registrations. I would requested all those who are interested to please let us know asap as I feel the seats will run out soon.
Thanks
