Hi,
we had a student from Tallinn University at Scan-Agile for just Bjarte's
presentation. Now he has arrantged a seminar with Bjarte. Any interested, please
check out.

After listening the presentation of Bjarte in Helsinki I decided to invite
Bjarte to have a seminar in Tallinn. It will take place on Friday, December 4th
from 9.00 to 14.30 and will be held in English.
Also, I wonder, if it would be possible to invite some people from Finland to
participate in the seminar. As it is held in English there might be some
managers who are interested in the topic and it would be interesting to mix
together or compare the experiences of Finnish and Estonian managers (we are
having a discussion session at the end). Could you spread information on the
event?
Please see http://www.alfonso.ee/ENG
Thank you and best regards,

a request, can next meeting be about impediments, what they are, how they are
communicated and how to solve them?

Hello everyone!
A discussion about agile testing started in Scan-Agile 2009 that was
followed by a Workshop on Agile Testing on ninth of this month. Since
testing is such a hot potato right now, let's continue the discussion
next Tuesday over dinner.
There will be a short talk to start the discussion, followed by the
usual dinner.

Hi ya'll,
The call for submissions for the XP2010 conference next summer in Trondheim is
open. In fact, the first deadlines (for research papers and experience reports)
are only a couple of weeks away!
Please consider submitting proposals - there's a lot of activity around agile
methods going on in Finland and the community at large would surely benefit from
us sharing our experience.

Hello.
Who should we invite to give a talk at next year's Scan-Agile conference? Please
reply on this thread.
All suggestions are welcome, although the final decisions will be up to next
year's organizers.

Agile Finland executive committee
Lately there has been some talk about advancing Agile Finland and
setting some goals for it. This theme was brought up several times in
Scan-Agile 2009 a couple of weeks ago.
What kind of an association would you like Agile Finland to be? What
would you like AF to get done, and what do you expect to get from
Agile Finland? What's the point of all of this, anyways?
I shall bring post-its, and there shall be beer. :)

Hi fellow Oulu agilists,
Unfortunately, today's "BV game" dinner topic will be moved to a future dinner
because Pertti and Tarja did not have enough time to prepare.
Let's decide the dinner topic this time Ad-Hoc. I'm sure we will have an
interesting discussion anyway...
- Daniel
There is a risk that this generates some heated discussion again... But anyway,
found a large research study about TDD.
http://works.bepress.com/djanzen/4/
I have not read it through (it is 354 pages!). But based on the abstract it
seems study found TDD to be a very good practice. Judge yourself...

The next monthly Agile dinner in Oulu will be on Thursday the 22th of October
(22.10.2009).
(moved one week ahead from the original date, the 15th because it collides with
the ScanAgile conference)
The dinner's topic will be "Business Value Game" introduced by Tarja Käckman and
Pertti Kontio.
Again, Participation is free, everyone pays for their own meal and drinks.

Theme: Leadership and it's impact on agility
Since there are rumours floating around about a very interesting study
about leadership in Finland and we might touch on the study's
implications on agility this evening.
- Ari
Our planned dinner date of 15.10 collides with the ScanAgile conference, so I
suggest that we move the dinner one week to thursday, 22.10.
If this is okay for most of you, I will go ahead and make the arrangements.

Hi folks at Oulu area,
There were some talks during past dinners, even decisions maybe, about
changing the Oulu Agile Dinner organizing discussions from a hand held
email list to this discussion group. Assuming that all decisions are
naturally held, I'm surprised by the low volume of related emails.

Finnish Association of Software Testing in collaboration with Agile Finland
is organizing a workshop on Agile Testing. The date and time of the half-day
workshop is 9.11.2009 13-16 and is held in Helsinki, Endero’s office. The
workshop is set up to work on defining what is Agile Testing and how it
manifests in practices used in projects. In this workshop, we focus on
testing that supports agile projects, with focus on high-level testing
viewpoint. We’re looking for practical examples of how testing is done in
agile projects, to reflect the variety of practices and their impact on
enabling and supporting team’s agility.
Due to limited time, we will work on scoped topics that the participants
choose, for example:
· Tester’s part in daily communication
· Test metrics in agile project
· Bug reporting and handling
· Scoping testing that is needed in an increment
We will not address this time:
· Unit testing in agile projects
· Agile testing while development is not agile
Workshop is facilitated by Erkki Pöyhönen, with at agile testing trainers,
Kari Kakkonen and Maaret Pyhäjärvi, and agile coach Markus Hjort acting as
the content owners with different experiences in agile responsible for
preparing a focusing memo and/or opening presentations.
The workshop is an approach for experienced professionals to share knowledge
and experiences between various organizations and groups. In addition to
normal contributing participants, we welcome two newcomers (”I assume I
don’t have contribution to give”) to listen in for learning purposes.
Participation is free of charge. Due to the workshop nature of the event,
participation is limited at 16 contributing participants, with selection
criteria being depth of experiences and variety of backgrounds the
participant can bring on the topic at hand. We hope to include practitioners
in agile, practitioners in testing and parties providing training on agile
testing in a cross-company fashion. Participants are selected on the basis
of applications to attend with emphasis on diversity. Please let us know
about your willingness to participate as soon as possible, at latest Friday
9.10.2009, the places are confirmed on 15th of October.
As a result of the workshop, we make a summary report of learning points and
conclusions to share with the Finnish testing and agile communities.
HOW TO APPLY
If you want to attend the meeting, inform the organizers
(testausosy-or@yahoogroups.com) describing your background and ability to
contribute.
We’re aiming for balance of:
· Agile practitioners with sympathy / understanding of testing
· Testing practitioners with sympathy / understanding of agile
· Experienced agile testing training instructors
When you apply, please tell which group(s) you feel you belong to.
Maaret
PS: FAST members may note that the date has been rescheduled. Those who have
already been letting us know on their interest to participate have been
informed with a separate email.

Dear fellow agilist,
Last year Agile Finland ry arranged the first Scandinavian Agile Conference.
There were great talks and good opportunities to network with other like-minded
people and advance the state of Agile in Europe.
Encouraged by positive feedback from last year we are proud to present the
bigger and better Scan Agile 2009!
This year's conference will be a two-day event and feature an expanded program
including twenty five sessions on six parallel tracks. We will have speakers
from eight countries including several from the Nordic agile community.
Mary Poppendieck will kick-off the conference with her keynote, which is
followed by a full day of sessions ranging from introductory talks to advanced
topics, theory, and workshops. The second day will be dedicated to Open Space
sessions.

Methods & Tools has just published in its Fall 2009 issue "Mature Scrum at
Systematic". Co-written by Carsten Ruseng Jakobsen and Jeff Sutherland, this
article explains how the experiences from combining Lean, CMMI and Scrum have
led Systematic to identify examples of explicit guidance from CMMI that help to
execute Scrum activities even better.

Hi,
Scandinavian Agile 2009 conference is coming soon. We all organizers are doing
this on our free time. This time the event is even bigger and better than last
year. It also means there is lot more job for organizers. Therefore we are also
looking more volunteers from our members to help us to organize really great
conference. If you want to help us, please send us e-mail to
organizers@... and we could discuss more.
On the behalf of the organizers,

Hi,
I created a survey to get some feedback for you. If you have some time
(<5min), please go to the link below and fill it in. Especially, it would be
excellent to get some feedback from people who did not participate the event
this time.

Since there are so many people, the dinner may take a little longer than one
hour. To keep the schedule I will collect a list of orders and take that to
the restaurant in advance.
If you have time please check the menus and send me the following details by

Yes, TDD has gotten a lot of attention in dinners recently, which is a good
thing. However, there is a lot more in the field of testing we can utilize
in agile projects.
Some viewpoints which came to my mind:
- defining what the code / system should do VS trying to break the code /
system
- verifying that it does the thing right VS validating that it does what the
user wants
- most effective when automated VS most effective when done by a human
To me TDD is mostly on the left side of these. I think we should have
something from the right side in our projects, too.
And no, I am not an expert on testing, haven't even read the latest book (
http://tinyurl.com/la59mk) yet, but will try to learn more.
Best, Mikko
