There's always the XP Game [1], which was run as an AgileNorth event a
few years ago. It covers the basic mechanics of an XP project without
going into the coding practices. If you wanted coding, I know of only
the coding dojo style events, which focus on TDD.

There will be another AgileNorth event, but due to the various work commitments of the committee involved in organising it, we have pushed it back slightly to early 2010.
Whilst I've got you, is there any particular topic/issues you would like to see covered in the conference?
The last year or so we have concentrated on the conferences and
mini conferences.
If there is a desire to start regular pub meetings again then
let us know.

Agile software development has many very common-sense ideas in it, but
if it was all common-sense we'd have been using it long ago. Agile
also contains counter-intuitive ideas: paradoxes that make it hard for
people accept. For example, the notion that we go fast BECAUSE we take
quality to the max is paradoxical for people. They are used to having
to trade off speed and quality. On the other hand the idea that those
who do the work are best placed to estimate it is seen as perfectly
sensible. How can a coherent design emerge if design is done one
iteration at a time? Another paradox. But it's easy to accept that
when you build a system iteratively, you can learn more quickly from
your experiences - that's common sense. We’ll explore the 5 other
paradoxes, and you’ll see how a grasp of these helps you to take your
agile practices to the next level.

NW Hackspace

7:00pm - 8:30pm
FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology)
88 Wood Street
Liverpool, England L1 4D
A start to getting together a crowd to open a NW Hackspace in
Liverpool [1]:
Starting Weds 22 April, a fortnightly meet-up at 7pm at FACT. We may
try and meet in their media lab at some time, but we'll start with the
bar.
*** BUBBLINO (as seen on BBC ;) ***
Adrian McEwan will bring along Bubblino (as seen on BBC ;) to the
first meeting. Format will be informal discussion after a short intro
on hackspaces.
One reason for choosing this coming Wednesday is that it follows
straight on from the Small Steps to Sustainability meeting on Creative
Learning [2] - something that very much includes having fun in a
hackerspace. I hope that some people will find themselves staying on
from Small Steps for the Hackspace Meeting (or coming early to the HS
meeting, to take part in Small Steps).
Note that Birmingham hackspace combine regular pub meetings with
occasional weekend hackdays. Help us find a venue and we'll be doing
the same.

Subject: [cwm] Fly The Coop survey
To: co-working-manchester@googlegroups.com
Sort of a crosspost from GeekUp:
Fly The Coop is a non-profit co-operative established to provide co-
working and collaboration across Manchester (and ultimately... beyond?).
You can find out (a little) more about Fly The Coop (FTC for short),
here:
http://www.flythecoop.co.uk/
This Wednesday just gone, Fly The Coop held a co-working day at the
Science Park and started to plan for the future.
We established during the course of that, rather than us inventing
what we want, we should ask the community at large what they want.
So, as it's Friday afternoon, I'd like you to take 10 minutes to help
us work out what you want or need from a co-working space. We've
designed a questionnaire to try and help us understand the needs of
the community as a whole. Take a peek:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=7ImiuFlWgOk_2bsQYHkUN3Jw_3d_3d
This is focused at Manchester, but if you travel into Manchester from
afar occasionally we'd be pleased to hear about what you think too in
case you'd ever want to call in - we ask for personal details at the
end and the only bit that is compulsory is the postcode so we can
identify where you are: the rest of your personal information is
entirely optional.
Your responses will be anonymised/aggregated with other responses
before being passed onto the FTC board of directors.
