Agnosia Support Group
Our members include adults with agnosias, parents of agnosics, post cataract and stroke patients, people with impaired object recognition, etc. In addition, we welcome researchers and the education community to join in the important discussion of how to better understand the world of agnosia and create educational opportunities so that those with agnosias can thrive well. This group is for people who have or are interested in only one or more kinds of agnosias. People with PA (impaired face recognition or prosopagnosia ), visual agnosia support group, object agnosia, capgras syndrome, topographical(navigation), anosia, color vision change, friends are welcome to join.To date, we appear to be the first and only group in the world to serve as a meeting place for all of these communities combined.
This is a learning place, a place to find strategies for coping, to learn about testing issues, and even to talk about aspects of agnosias that haven't been explored much elsewhere. It is meant to function as a support group for people with agnosia and a sort of think tank, crossing the boundary of specific recognition issues as we move toward greater understanding of how people think, recognize, and learn.
Science is at an exciting point. Machines that have only recently been invented are helping those who have had recognition problems for years work toward discovering the biological basis of their problems. The advances in science have created a need for close examination of educational and even ethical issues as we work toward thriving with ways of perceiving that may be atypical or new.
Vision transitions (for example, via operations)are among topics discussed. Faceblind
Screen names acceptable. Some things are easier to talk about "off the record" than on. Private group, all welcome.
