Retooling Your Skills for Hot Technologies
"Imagine that you have been with the same company for 10 years in
IT - successful, good raises, added responsibility ... Friday
afternoon your boss asks to see you .... YOU NEVER SAW IT COMING!!!
Learn what to do to avoid this and what to do if it happens to you.
Practical solutions only!"
Susan Handman is RCG Information Technology's National Solutions
Practice Director. Ms. Handman has over 30 years of experience in the
application of technology to a variety of business problems.
Her early technology experience began in Operations Research.
Leveraging her MBA from Monmouth College and BS in Mathematics from
the University of Pittsburgh, Ms. Handman expanded her portfolio of
solutions to include sales force automation, configuration
management, collaborative computing, call center design, customer
database mining, applications development, customer self-service e-
Commerce, and statistical modeling. She has combined this knowledge
with hands-on experience to provide solutions for a variety of CRM
challenges including Call Center, Customer Service, Sales Force
Automation, Campaign Management and Help Desk. She has applied CRM
experience in many vertical markets, such as financial services,
consumer products, educational testing, manufacturing, and
engineering.
She recently built a new Supply Chain and Customer Service
organization for a Consumer Products company. In this role, she
designed e-Commerce sales tools, Call Center tools and processes,
business rule processing, and pricing models tied to a back-end ERP
system. Other CRM accomplishments include reengineering of the IT
deliverable to the Call Centers for Advanta Credit Card. The effort
resulted in a redefinition of the business requirements, clearly
defined service levels, and improved delivery of CTI and front-end
solutions. During this period, Advanta opened an additional call
center, added a web enabled self-service application, and improved
the service level to these applications. She led initiatives at

At our last few meetings we have gotten mixed reviews about the new
menu of a light buffet and hors-deurves. We have also noticed a
decline in attendance. In the next few weeks we will begin
reassessing our program and menu. We are particulary concerned about
the lack of participation of our members. In addition to a survey of
the members of this list, we will be calling chapter members to get
their comments.
In order to help us provide a program that better meets your needs,
we would like you to answer a few questions. We are very interested
in any opinions you might have, and ask that you be completely candid.

Topic: IT Legal Brief: Privacy Regulations
Speaker: Stephen Shaiman, Esq, Stevens & LeeDate: February 27, 2001
Time: 5:45-8:00
Location: Williamson's Restaurant, GSB Building, City Line & Belmont
Avenues, Bala Cynwyd, PA
NEW! Pricing: $20 Students/$25 Members/$30 Guests
IT Legal Brief: Privacy Regulations
What you don't know can hurt you. Privacy is one of the most
contentious issues affecting the "information age". Not simply
Internet privacy, but the entire issue of ownership of personal data
and the ease with which personal, medical, and financial data can be
shared have become a cause for public concern and legislative action.
The Child Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) has been in effect
since April 2000, is being monitored and enforced by the Federal
Trade Commission, but is still not understood by many companies with
web sites which might attract a young audience. And while COPPA is
restricted to sites which might attract children under 13, there are
approximately 5 bills in Congress which intend to regulate
information collected from anyone online, as well as financial and
health information, and the use and collection of social security
numbers by businesses. Instead of waiting for new laws, many
government agencies have begun actively pursuing businesses which
appear to violate privacy "best practices" under existing statutes.
Mr. Shaiman will discuss current and pending privacy regulations. He
will also discuss the role of the "chief privacy officer", and the
benefits of creating that position, as well as other defensive
strategies. He will also be able to answer questions on other IT
legal issues, from the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) to the
Uniform Computer Information Transactions Act (UCITA).
Stephen Shaiman has had over 20 years experience in information
technology law. A partner in the firm of Stevens & Lee, Mr. Shaiman
is an accomplished speaker who has made presentations to technical,
accounting, and law organizations. His past presentations to AITP
have been informative and have resulted in lively discussions.

The Philadelphia chapter of the Association of Information Technology
Professionals (AITP) is seeking candidates for its board of
directors, including executive positions. The election will be held
at the November meeting. The time commitment involved is 2 hours for
the monthly board meeting which meets about 10 times per year and a
few hours per month depending on the position taken and the
committees involved. The position requires that the candidate be a
member of the chapter at the time they assume office in January.
The Philadelphia chapter is one of the oldest in the association,
which was established in 1951 under a different name. At one point
the chapter had over 200 members, but has since declined to about
30. Nationally, the association has approximately 11,000 student and
professional members, with professional chapters ranging in size from
10 to over 100.
The professional chapter has ties to 2 student chapters, one of which
is the Widener University chapter. The Widener student chapter won
last years association award for outstanding 2 or 4 year program. it
has consistently won the student chapter outstanding performance
award (SCOPA) and its faculty advisor, Dr. Yvonne Antonucci, recently
won the national award for her efforts.
The chapter board recently lost a few members due to job conflicts or
relocation. We would like to restablish the chapter membership,
increase our participation with the student chapter, and improve the
attendance at our monthly presentations. To do this, we will need
interested and committed individuals who are willing to volunteer the
time necessary to acheive these goals.
To volunteer or request more information, please send me an e-mail
with your name and a contact phone number. Thank you.
