Object Database "db4ob", How easy is Database with Java
    Ayman Emam

Object Databases a word is comming up step by step and it seems it's getting great acceptance in the Software field of course due to extreme flexibility and easy of doing database . Hiberanate introduce this nice idea of storing object and it was greatly successful and now we read that EJB3 took some features of Hibernate to enable extrafeatures taken from Hibernate, and that's better because EJB3 is a standard. .

SWT minimizes the gab between .Net and Java in Desktop development
    Amr Korany

For a time, I was looking to java as a "Server", "Client" and "Mobiles" paltform, and when it comes to desktop applications, C# is the player. but after i looked at the new Java GUI library SWT, I think i should change this opeion . SWT is the IBM GUI addition to the Java world, the whole Eclipse IDE is built using this new technology.

Mastering Ajax, Part 2: Make asynchronous requests with JavaScript and Ajax
    IBM Java Dev.

Most Web applications use a request/response model that gets an entire HTML page from the server. The result is a back-and-forth that usually involves clicking a button, waiting for the server, clicking another button, and then waiting some more. With Ajax and the XMLHttpRequest object, you can use a request/response model that never leaves users waiting for a server to respond. In this article, Brett McLaughlin shows you how to create XMLHttpRequest instances in a cross-browser way, construct and send requests, and respond to the server.

Beyond AJAX and HTML... a new approach!
    TheServerSide

For reducing internet traffic and improving the GUI, client-side caching is the right idea, but using AJAX + HTML is not the best way for that. Using unstable JavaScript + savage HTML + amazing XML is a poor solution for internet users, and a lot of headache for web developers. We really need robust environments and standard well-designed frameworks. Current HTML is not a good markup language for caching.

    JUnit !
    Ahmed Hashim

JUnit promotes the idea of first testing then coding, in that it is possible to setup test data for a unit which defines what the expected output is and then code until the tests pass. It is believed by some that this practice of "test a little, code a little, test a little, code a little..." increases programmer productivity and stability of program code whilst reducing programmer stress and the time spent debugging. It also integrates with Ant http://jakarta.apache.org/ant/.

Advanced MIDP Networking, Accessing Using Sockets and RMI from MIDP-enabled Devices
    Abeer El Sayed

The Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) provides a Generic Connection Framework that can be used to develop network-based applications. In addition, the Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP) provides the HttpConnection interface, which is part of the javax.microedition.io package, that defines the necessary methods and constants for an HTTP connection. HTTP is the only protocol a MIDP implementation must support, all other protocols are optional. For example, in the reference implementation from Sun, there is no support for either Transport Control Protocol (TCP) sockets or User Datagram Protocol (UDP) datagrams.

    Tomcat Performance Higher on Linux
    TheServerSide

WebPerformance.com has published an in-depth comparison of Tomcat running on Windows and Linux, with a significant difference in performance in favor of Linux. Published as a two-part article, it shows differences in how the VMs handle various conditions. As a result, it's useful to examine even if you're not using Tomcat.
