Travel News - European Airline tries to buy Aer Lingus

Many people enjoy buying cheap plane tickets when they can find them
online or offline. Ryanair, Europe's biggest low-cost operator made
a surprise cash offer to buy Ireland's Aer Lingus last Thursday.
Ryanair and Aer Lingus are the main airline operators from Ireland.
What would happend if they merged? Would it create a monopoly?

Who is Aer Lingus?

Aer Lingus is the national airline of Ireland. It is based in Dublin
and it operates over 30 aircraft serving Europe and USA. The airline
was floated on the Dublin and London Stock Exchanges on 2 October
2006 and the Irish government at present owns the 28% of the
company. Aer Lingus is a member of the oneworld airline alliance,
though has announced its intention to leave on 1 April 2007.

Competition in the airline business is needed. It will be
interesting to see what happens with the sale of Aer Lingus.
