Hello all!
In reading the back-posts, Ive managed to get thru the
first 115 or so exchanges. Having yet to read further,
I dont know if this adventure novella found more
information on the Jeffers Petroglyphs or not. As the
conversation went, up to what I've read, actual
pictures and images were hard to come by.
I think I can help. I live here in MN just north of
Moorhead, three towns up hwy 75. But being spittin'
distance of three College libraries, MSUM, NDSU and
Concordia, Ive done some exploring after the Jeffers
mysteries.
In my files I have previously scanned the basic guts
of a book written back in 1976, with some pretty good
photos. Authored by Gordon Allan Lothson, entitled
"THE JEFFERS PETROGLYPH SITE A Survey and Analysis of
the Carvings", the text completely reflects a '70s
mainstream, isolationist, hunting magic, primitivism
chatter, full of air and lack of any real respect for
the spiritual representation going on. Not to mention
a total lack of even mentioning diffusionistic
symbolism. The concept did not exsist in the
vocabulary yet.
Dispite the less than observant text and no advances
in interpretation, the pictures are quite interesting.
The figures themselves had been recorded in
drawing-form by Meredith English, Eldon Platcek, Stan
Saylor and a few by the author. These drawings make
up the bulk of the pages within the book along with
their page-eating statistical spiel-text all based on
obsolete viewpoints. For those who want to see it all,
contact me and I will send you the details.
But to save kb, I have graphically extracted just the
drawings and paired them for space (not relationship
or content) using Photoshop into compact .gif images.
I see Ogham, both line and bricen; Tifinagh; Kufic;
Scandi Runes and early Christian. (Nestorian from the
west coast? Medieval?)
I will attempt to attach an introductory .jpg map of
the area to this post, although the Yahoo format may
prohibit it. If it rejects the attachment, look for it
in a few minutes in the group files. I will continue
to upload the pictures I have to the group files and
tell you where to find them when I'm done. It may take
a day to get them all there.
Further points of interest I have discovered while
looking at the inscriptions will follow in successive
posts. C'mon y'all, this list has sat too long without
some productive discussion!
Enjoy! -Chris
