I've just read Telemach's interview in Showtime 17. A great
interview, but two things in particular caught my attention. First of
all I'd no idea that Nerve axis had become so successful. When I left
the scene they were well known but had yet to produce the high quality
productions that they apparently went on to produce. The second thing
to catch my attention was Telemach's discussion of the "Destiny party
that ran over a weekend". And then it all came flooding back to me. I
was at this party too. I had a great time and remember a lot of the
stuff that happened here. What a weekend! I think I spent all my
money on the train ticket to get there (it was in Kent, Gillingham or
Sittingbourne I think). I could barely afford to buy anything to eat,
the whole weekend but it was still fun!

Anyway, at the party I met Telemach. I don't know if he remembers
though as he was pretty wasted (as he said in the interview). I was
there with the other guys from Infect UK (the short-lived crew I
mentioned in a previous post), plus Denzil and his friend from
Apocalypse (Cryton I think). A lot of things happened that weekend.
For starters, the key to the front door was lost, so Tantalus
(organiser) started rounding up money for a collection to replace the
lock. Apparently the key was later found under Destiny's kit on the
stage but no money was returned. Lemon were going to release a demo
at the comp. but decided not to when it emerged there was no prize
money as promised. The demo was released shortly after the event and
contained some harsh words from Paradroid, and at least one other -
they were really slagging off the party. Perhaps bitter because they
missed out on getting any prize money!

I'll never forget when the guys from Fairlight turned up wearing their
matching jackets with "FLT" plastered across the back (similar to the
"FBI" jackets we see in the movies). Plus Splatt had like a million
Fairlight stickers printed which he took great delight in handing out
to star-struck kids. When everyone was tucking into their sandwiches,
Fairlight popped out and brought back a take-away and bottles of
booze. Haha! These guys really thought they were cool. I remember
Denzil said to Splatt, "so, YOU'RE the mighty Splatt." and his
serious response, "yep.". What an ego! There was some guy from Nerve
Axis at the party (Grylor or something like that). He was bragging to
everyone that he had all the names and addresses of the Fairlight crew
on his hard-drive (which he had obtained by making friends with Splatt
at the party.) Much Later on when he and most of the rest of us fell
asleep, his hard drive mysteriously went missing. In the morning when
he found out, as you can imagine he was pretty upset. Not just about
the value of the hard-drive but because of the fact that he was at a
scene party with friends. He thought everyone could be trusted. It
certainly didn't cross my mind to secure any of my personal belongings
before falling asleep. The guy announced that he was going to search
all the cars in the car-park to look for his HD. He said that if any
car-owner failed to co-operated they would get a brick through their
window. Like I said he was extremely upset. The Fairlight crew must
have decided this would be a good time for them to take a trip in
their car, because they left the party for a while and then came back
shortly afterwards. I'd kept quiet all this whilst I was on the
scene. At the time I thought the Fairlight guys WERE cool. A lot of
us looked up to them with sheer admiration. But now I look back at
the way Splatt and the others acted, how they looked down upon
others. What a bunch of tossers. Thieving tossers.

But back to the party. Like I say it was a great weekend. I met a
lot of my contacts, whom I'd never met face-to-face before - most
notably Tango and Venom / Destiny. I also chatted to Nuke who was a
hero of mine at the time. Extremely talented guy. Anthrox were
there, of course some members of LSD (I know Dark was there). I
remember meeting Hydlide. He was a musician well-known for his
excellent dance tunes. I was into Dance music myself. He looked
nothing like I expected - with his dreadful flowery shirt, and big
hair! Top bloke though.

That's about all I can remember. If anyone knows where I can find a
party report for this I would really appreciate it. maybe that'll
bring some more memories of the weekend back to me.

Cheers,

Ric
