Hi Everyone, Hi Rich (See if anyone else here has an idea eh ;o)
I have a little problem at the moment. I don't seem to be able to chat to
anyone. I can log on. I can Add Buddies. But I cannot find a window to chat with
them. I cannot find a menu option to chat & double clicking on the buddy name
does nothing. When I right click I select "Send Instant Message" but nothing
happens again (V. 0.9451).
All my libs & classes are the same version as the ones in the Guide bar one &
Textinput.mcc class. I have version 29.2001 & the guide says 29.5 (Rich has
tested the two versions & cannot replicate the problem).
Does anyone else out there have any ideas?
FuZion.

* Discovered that I used the global TimerPort on one Message port that I could
not use it on. It would stop the Sound system from working properly. In fact,
the
program would not fully close after playing a sound, among other problems.
* Also found a problem in the Typing system having to do with the WinAIM not
sending
a NULL typing signal after sending a message.

* Modified the password encryption to coincide with the new encryption used by
AIM. While the previous password encryption was still accepted, the new
encryption
should be more secure.
* Discovered that it was very possible to open too many message ports and have
failures in opening various items. This was mainly due to a new message port
being
opened for each Timer, this has been fixed by creating a global TimerPort
which is
used by almost all timers in the program. (Problem was more evident in my
Internal
Alpha, but was quite apparent in all versions)
* Found missing line in Typing system, line was in Internal Alpha but not
copied to

* Found yet another line in the HTML Parser/Preparser that was missing in the
Release
source code.

This works better now, but not 100%. The URL AmigAIM sends to the
browser seems to work properly, but it still appears incorrectly in
the chat window/history window, as described before. For more clues
(?), the relvant section of the log file looks like this

which I assume you can cut and paste into one of your local logs to
see it in action. I also uploaded a window grab to
http://www.mindspring.com/~taoberly/amigaim.ilbm, but you'll likely
have to download it, since Mindspring supplies a mime type of
text/plain. :-(
There's also a problem with translating incoming " characters,
which I just noticed tonight. AmigAIM sends real quote characters,
while moderm AIM clients apparently do not. Another snip from a log:

<HTML><BODY BGCOLOR="#ffffff"><FONT

I suspect there are more of these character entities, but we'd have
to run some specific tests to know for sure.

This doesn't seem to work 100% either. I see the message "xxx has
entered text", which quickly changes to "xxx is typing", but this
latter message never (rarely?) disappears from the window, even after
the actual message arrives. My AIM friend tells me that AmigAIM's
"typing messages" do appear normally on his side.

Still working on the Internal ALPHA version. Typing Notification was one of
the things I had added to the Internal version during the year lost in the

wouldn't be much harder.

So you've now been able to swap the boards with another drive, but
still no luck? :-( Well, don't do anything crazy like taking a
shotgun to the drive. Back when those other famous hard drives died,
I swore I'd investigate the availability of data rescue services. I
know this could cost thousands of dollars, but held out hope that
some individual with the right skills managed to build his own,
private "clean room", or that some university offers the service at
cost to freeware/open-source programmers. Maybe I'll get around to
it this time...

file for versions 0.9445, 0.9446 and 0.9447 reimplemented as mentioned below.
This
should return this version to the same functionality as the previous release.
* 0.9447 - AIM Protocol Error in Changing E-Mail was fixed
* 0.9446 - Removed a MuForce/Enforcer hit which could occur during a manual
reset
of the connection via the menu selection.
* 0.9445 - Removed a few deficiencies in the Link handling routines, it would
have
problems if the link didn't start with "http://". The HTML parser
was very
bad in this case and has been changed.
- Due to the fatal HD errors with the one year old backup available, I have
lost lots of changes to the internal Alpha version. I have not yet given
up, but a year's development will take a while to rebuild. (And it wasn't
anywhere near ready to release, even before the HD error)

The history is a big change being worked on in my Internal version (And,
yes, the Clipboard is a bad spot with the current history system)

Just about all those types of lists use NList as a parent class.

Ugh. The release version hasn't seen many updates, but this could be
devastating for file transfer and chat support. :-( I am crossing my
fingers that AmigAIM doesn't turn into another
texteditor.mcc/texteditor.gadget (after Allan Odgaard's fried drive)
or Lha (after Jim Cooper's fried drive). If you don't mind a

you'll acquire a replacement that much quicker. :-)

Ah, I'd skipped over that before. Next to "Received", the History
window lists a blue, underlined ampersand on a line by itself (but
not clickable), then on the following line lists the full URL minus
any ampersand or "replacement" character:
http://www.capcom.com/BBS/showthread.php?s=threadid=3349
The above single line is what appears in the bubble help.
Umm, and I just found another bug. :-/ Have you ever noticed
Enforcer hits when highlighting text in the History window? This is
the first time I've seen this, and it started when I tried
highlighting the clickable URL, starting from a line further down.
Those clickable links don't transfer to the clipboard so well.
And this window uses the NList classes, right? I have NList 20.111
(040) and NListview.mcc 19.66 (040) installed here, and wonder if
they could be involved? Any other users want to test this?
Thanks,
Todd

Very, seeing how my main drive on the Amiga is currently (for the time
being) totally bolluxed - trying to get an identical drive to try out a
new main board, as the drive appears to run - but fails to do much more.
Only backups I have for the programs is stored on another system, which

it telling you where the link goes (At least with the later versions of
NList) - What does that say?

Somehow AmigAIM is interpreting the ampersand as a "d" character.
I've never seen this before, and so assume it's AmigAIM causing the
problem and not some other component, ie. OpenURL.

Yeah, tcpdump shows the email address arriving from the server, so
apparently AmigAIM isn't recognizing it for some reason.

Sorry, it was the user-interface messing me up. :-( I didn't bother
reading the "instructions" at the top of the window, and assumed the
disabled gadget meant the feature didn't work.

You are probably right about the publicity - but, it actually has a webpage,
livejournal community and a mailing list :-)

Yes, Idle - and actually, that is based on keyboard/mouse movement, so the
person who is idle hasn't done anything for a certain amount of time (That
is selectable as to whether the person on that end allows that to be known,
and with AmigAIM, it can be set to start at a certain time)

help system will give info about the person, including an Idle time, if they

That is a capability to send warnings to someone that has sent a message to
you that you didn't want to receive - or if they continue to send them, be
abusive, etc...
- I doubt that I will ever implement that as it can be abused, and is
currently low on my prioritty list

Actually, the way ICQ and AIM work when adding someone to the buddy list are
completely different. When you add a buddy to your buddy list, the person
with that buddy name has no idea that you have added them to your buddy list
and you would have no idea that they added you to their buddy list.
In the released versions, the buddy lists for AmigAIM are stored locally only.

is sending data...

Some windows don't have a Snapshot and simply open relative to the Screen

Not really sure, AIM likes to be complicated sometimes and either change
things so they don't work - or the separate servers they make AIM programs
connect to for searches stop working, etc...
Seems to be operational at present (You do have to select an Interest with
the right mouse button over the selection area)

Hmmm... haven't seen that one yet
- Some parts are quite radically different (And not ready for release)...

Hello,
I installed AmigAIM over the weekend for the first time, and was
really surprised at how glossy and trouble-free it's been. :-) I
don't think it gets enough publicity! As I'm new to to the program
(and have never used an official AIM client), would somebody answer a
few things that aren't in the manual?
1) An underlined nick in the Buddy List means, umm, "Idle"? And Idle means no
network activity for, err, about 10 minutes?
2) What's the significance of the "Warning Level" number in the Info
Window?
3) If I add a user to my Buddy List but don't contact them
immediately, can they see any trace of me? Apparently ICQ's server-
side contact lists can trigger stuff like that, although I realize
AmigAIM's lists are still always local. (Right?)
4) In the "Update E-Mail Address" window, is there any significance
to the "Requesting" text never disappearing?
Some quirks:
5) My TCP/IP stack is Miami Deluxe, which is loaded on bootup, and
AmigAIM will not connect automatically if it's started before I go
online. It goes through its "Automatic reconnect" cycle ad-
infinitum, even when the interface is finally up. (Two are
configured, ppp0 and ppp1...and if I have to say it, I *am* using a
real Amiga. ;-) This happens only with "Online Check" disabled,
since that feature generates an error if I'm not already online. If
I click Cancel to break the cycle, then immediately click OK, AmigAIM
goes online normally. Do other people have this problem?
6) I noticed some windows never get an MUI snapshot gadget when the
feature is activated through global MUI prefs. Two examples are the
"My Options -> Confirm Account" window and the Directory Info window,
which is spawned from the Info Window. Has anybody else noticed
this?
7) I suppose "Find a Buddy -> By Common Interest" isn't supposed to
work?
Richard, I also found an Enforcer hit when clicking "Remove" for a
chat window, via the context-sensitive menu in the Dock. I can email
you the Sashimi log if necessary. I also have a few user interface
suggestions that are probably too dull for the list, which I can also
email, assuming your alpha isn't radically different from the current
beta. ;-)
Thanks...and thanks for continuing to support AmigAIM!

... All 'real' users are happy, I'm sure, that you take care of
the list, and remove spammers. Thankyou !!! :)

I don't think so...
Does anyone read the Welcome message - or pay attention to it at all?
Here - I will quote the relevant area...
"Anyone found to have joined the mailing list with, what in the
creator's
opinion is the sole purpose of spamming, uploading Advertising files,
etc.
WILL BE removed immediately from the list, along with any files and
permanently banned from rejoining the list (I'm sorry if this sentence
sounds like I'm dictating my wishes to everyone, but I'm tired of
SPAMMERS
and an AD addition to the Files area finally overdid it)"
So - in the creator's opinion (mine) - Joining, uploading an
advertisement file and sending one E-Mail to the list is considered
spamming...
So, dapahulowo4790, you are the weakest link. Goodbye.

AmigAIM is really just a clone of the official AIM client being offered by
AOL/Netscape
What features AmigAIM has are shown in the AmigaGuide included in the main
distribution.

AmigAIM only connects up to the normal AIM network system and has no Chat
capabilities other than normal Instant Messaging between clients.

hi there,
i can't find a faq explaining the features of amigaim,
or more generaly aim clients.
my question is: what network amigaim can use?
is it possible to join yahoo chat room with it?
tnx
As a reply to myself, as I forgot to say something...
I'd forgotten myself how the logfile was setup...
BTW: My latest internal version uses a different setup in that it saves
the logfiles by date like today's log would be "10-30-2003.log". I've
written a program that will do a full logfile conversion of the old
files to be included with the release that uses the new logfiles.
Logfiles BTW are, if anyone is interested, stored in the following format
Each Message is made up of a line which indicates the message type and
time
- One Character indicating type of message
- Eight Character Hex string indicating the 32 bit UNIX Timestamp
- A Hex string indicating the length of message (X)
- The rest of the line is ignored (Currently used for showing the date
for human eyes)
The next X characters are the characters of the message
Or - at least, that is how the current logfiles in my internal version are
done - I don't think I changed that much.
I had forgotten how much work I put into the Log Converter. I just
looked at it for the first time in ages, I've actualy built an MUI based
GUI for it to show the progress.

Oops - All attachments are removed, but you can upload it to the List's
file area if you wish (I could probably easily write a routine to do it,
if I couldn't I shouldn't have written the routine to create the logfiles
to start with :-)

I was able to get further into the login process after I had checked the bypass
option, but it gets to a certain point in the process, gives and error and asks
me if I'd like to try to connect again.
Not sure if this is typical of AmigAIM under WinUAE or not.

Actually, AmigAIM does "run" under UAE, but you have to select a bypass
system to make it work (It is a Timer Bypass in that it checks the Socket
at a regular interval) - It is under Connection Preferences.
I'm trying to get it to work correctly under both a real Amiga and UAE
without requiring the Bypass.
