AmigaOS is now a key part of our strategy, now that we
have decided it will form the basis for our home server, whereas
before it was independent from our DE strategy, so this is
what makes it so important.
As for the application frenzy, please understand that the AmigaDE
market will always be much much bigger than the AmigaOS market
and we will encourage people to write for the AmigaDE, which AmigaOS
users will benefit from straight away.
We will develop the AmigaOS as a home server, and also give it the
multimedia underpinnings it needs to provide the AmigaOS
AmigaDE with what it needs to work best on our own host.
Developers who prefer the AmigaOS can still access all of this functionality
from the AmigaOS as well, so there are choices, but those choices don't
have to limit market size.

Subject: [amigaone] Direction Change
Hi,
Firstly I would like to applaud the new roadmap. I think it makes the most
sense. The Amiga OS has some superb features which should not be lost. It
will be wonderful to see this running on a PPC natively.
I am a little sceptical however, (forgive me). Up until this weekend,
Amiga's response to any suggestion of porting the OS was "Too much
effort".
My question is simple, What changed and why?
If Amiga can change direction like this, it concerns me that the direction
can be reversed just as abruptly. I don't mean to be a pessimist. As I
said,
I applaud the new direction, and will be looking to buy one of the new
machines with OS4. However, the machine will still lack major software
vendor support, and that is a critical element. What is being done to
ensure
the major PC apps are going to be ported to OS4? E.g Netscape/Opera,
Photoshop, Acrobat etc?
When can we see this roadmap fully documented on the Amiga website?
Cheers
Dave
