Hi everybody,

Just a note to say the LCD backlight/screen on my Amilo A has just
died on me, and with a repair on the horizon costing at least Ł100, I
have sadly decided to call it a day with this machine. I am now
looking to break it up for spares (e.g. the battery and power supply)
since replacements of these still seem to command reasonable prices on
the web. So if anyone's interested in buying the laptop as is (minus
the HD, though I do have the original), the battery and/or power
supply, or any other part of the laptop I can easily remove, email me
directly. I am in the UK.

Regards,
David Randell

I have a CY26, as i said on this page :
http://rzr.online.fr/q/pc2100

it's unstable w/ 2*512, what kind of RAM have you ? which BIOS version ?

pc2100 should be best since we have a 266Mhz FSB

this one is barton based :

35W

I think it depends on the laptop you have. Mine works fine with
2x512MB (CY26) SD-RAM (hynx or something like that)

#~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~#
> ## CPU Upgrade
> @url: http://rzr.online.fr/q/Athlon

again this depends on what model you have. As for mine, I persume any
CPU with 266Mhz FSB will do. The most important value is: TDP
(=Thermal Design Power), as the heat-sink + fan are very bad.

If you look at this table:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Athlon_XP_microprocessors

I wouldn't try any higher than this: Athlon XP-M 2400+ 1800 MHz
512 KiB 266 MT/s 13.5x 1.35 AXMD2400FJQ4C

Unfortunately FSC seems to have a very bad general linux support. The
laptops are really unprofessionally made and truly according to their
prices - noticeable especially when trying to find spare-parts that
cost more, than buying a new laptop.

> I think thinkpad is a good option , can you confirm ?

Since almost a year I am using a thinkpad t41 (except for now, after
spilling coffee on it, I have to use my good old cy26 again ;)) - the
linux support ist great, everything works under ubuntu (since hardy,
even better support on intrepid). Spare parts (like new heatsink +
cooler) are cheap. So I am really happy to have one.

It would be good to have a "AmiloA" optimized config files, isn't it ?

Fell free to improve mine : @

Debian users can install my precompiled package :

failed while it's ok on 256+512 (i+e) ...

Hi,

I've got a fan that makes too much noise, the amilo is now in repair.
It has a 754M slot and a 1?8AMD processor.
(1655g)
Can this processor be replaced with something that will need less cooling??

Marc

Yes this is a known issue,

See the links on page :
http://rzr.online.fr/q/xrandr

It seems that NTSC is working now not yet PAL

You can stay up to date in the amilo list

Hi,

Does anyone know how to troubleshoot this issue. Am using a vintage
Amilo A (CY-26) running Ubuntu 8.04. Everything seems to work except
the external video display. On boot up it displays until the Gui kicks
in, where the external display promptly blanks out.

BTW does anyone know the mappings of the Fn (F1,...,F12) function keys
under this distro?

Many thanks,
David Randell

Hallo,

Amilo A1655G AMD Turion 64 1,8Ghz

I have a problem with fan noise. Listen:
http://users.fulladsl.be/~spb13810/research/fannoise.wav

Would such a problem be included in guarantee??

Can one clean the fan itself??

(I have kubuntu on it)

Would the fact that I use linux be a problem for garantee ??

I can copy my stuff/ reinstall windows xp if needed ;-)

Hi,
you said that you were able to use tvout using those commands :

     sudo atitvout -f detect
sudo xrandr --output S-video --set load_detection 1 # chk for sudo
     sudo atitvout -f detect
     sudo atitvout -f t

I tried but it failed, on ubuntu intrepid :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/debian/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/161893

Can you confirm ?

Thank you. I found out that littlecms was already installed. I tried a
couple of other programs too, but nothing happend. I installed windows
xp and tried adobe gamma which I have used before on an older
computer, but it didn't work on this one =S

Right now I'm trying to ask in fujitsu-siemens forums, but the answer
probably is that it is impossible to software calibrate this computer.
It also seems like some monitors has this "blue" cold color on them.
Well, thanks anyway. I shouldn't bother you with this =) It has
nothing to do with Linux after all.

Thanks for answering. I will keep 1.09 then. About the colors,
everything looks ok for me too, until I compare with others then I can
see that my screen is more blue. Yellow is still yellow and so on, but
some yellow variations, for example, look like blue for me. It is hard
to describe, the colors are right but still not. I tried a software
calibration but nothing happened. I guess there is nothing to do about
it. Thanks anyway.

1.09 definitly 1.10 is overheating

Now about tvout i downgraded my xserver on debian and it's working
again, feel free to ask how if you want tvout too...

This doesn't really have anything to do with this notebook and Linux.
However, the colors on the monitor is blueish... when I look on other
monitors they are more yellow. Anyone else noticed this? It is
irritating because every image I make seems to have a beautiful blue
color, but the true color is more yellow and green.

I also wonder if you recommend using BIOS 1.10 or 1.09?

Please try the latest xserver-xorg-video-ati from experimental first.

Brice

PS: your xorg.conf is the most horrible one I have ever seen. Did you
mess it up on purpose or did a fglrx tool or so do it for you?

Hello again
I just installed Ubuntu 8.04 this time and now everything (not two
innermost usb ports) works without a custom DSDT. No freezing Xorg
anymore, and no problem with freezing with a wireless network card
inserted either.
Perhaps this is old, but i will still write this anyway.

Hi,

First let me introduce myself, my name does not appear,
but I am the quoted one by Andrew Morton on his 1st post of this thread :

   http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.acpi.devel/27726

You may be aware of that yet, but It seems that the patch was rejected
for 2.6.25

Quoting linus : "the relevant ACPI code should either run much later,"

So was next then ? how can we help to fix this recurrent issue ?

Anyway I'd like to thank you all for all time spent on this job,
and I am happy with the patch as it is...

Regards

Apparently Phoenix provided a "bios editor"
this could help us to replace the bugged DSDT

Any volunteers around ? see links at

Hello everyone,

I am a Linux n00b and cannot get my external monitor to work on my laptop.

First of all, I think I am running the wrong driver, I've tried Envy
Legacy, which failed, and also the 8.28.8 driver from ATI which also
falls over.

I would appreciate any help to get this to work.

Thanks,

Dave
