Hello everyone,

I am a Linux n00b and cannot get my external monitor to work on my laptop.

First of all, I think I am running the wrong driver, I've tried Envy
Legacy, which failed, and also the 8.28.8 driver from ATI which also
falls over.

I would appreciate any help to get this to work.

Thanks,

Dave

Place the DSDT.aml into /etc/initramfs-tools

Don't forget to update the Initramfs:

  sudo update-initramfs -u

place the "DSDT.aml" into the /boot - but I did not test for sure.

hey unbuntu users, do you know ubuntu aproach to support bugged DSDT
bio ses ? any url about this ?

http://gaugusch.at/kernel.shtml

SuSE, Mandriva and Ubuntu, as well as other distros, already include
this patch in the default kernel, no need for re-compiling your kernel

Finally did you also manage to boot on a USB device like DSL ?
It can not manage to ...

Just wanted to reply with my experience with ubuntu.

gutsy (7.10) + hardy:

- network + both inner usb don't work together with 3D (did not test
if it works with vesa - but it should).
- hotfix with boot-flag "irqpoll" (you should get at least 3d +
network working again together)
- fix it with custom dsdt -> this should be done anyway, solves skippy
usb inner slot.

But I never had any screen blackouts anyway (except with
debian4.0/testing/unstable - there you need to fix dsdt first before
doing anything else ;) )

I succeeded at last! 3D acceleration thru DRI...
...with the indications here :
http://zoup.org/plog/index.php?op=ViewArticle&articleId=12&blogId=1

So I suppose the laptop is quite usable now.
All is needed for a vanilla Ubuntu 7.10 setup is:
1) Flashing the bios
2) Setting up a custom DSDT
3) Setting the xorg.conf with the options in the link above

Nothing to recompile...
I can fill a wiki page at your place about this if you wish Rzr...

Ok, I visited http://rzr.online.fr/q/k7-amiloa
If I'm correct, I was supposed to rebuild a kernel with only one
patch.
It seems that vanilla Ubuntu kernels already contain the patch...
In fact my dmesg states the DSDT is loaded:
[ 11.500784] ACPI: Core revision 20070126
[ 11.500929] ACPI: Looking for DSDT in initramfs... successfully
read 11567 bytes from /DSDT.aml.
[ 11.500995] ACPI: Table DSDT replaced by host OS
[ 11.501000] ACPI: DSDT 00000000, 2D2F (r1 COMPAL CY26____ 6040000
INTL 20061109)
[ 11.502541] ACPI: setting ELCR to 0200 (from 0c20)

So I suppose I should be good for ACPI (?) :)
Could you send me your xorg.conf, I can't find the settings on the
wiki?

Thanks a lot for your help,
Bertrand

Hello,
I'm very sad of the noise producted by my Amilo m1425 fan cooler. So I decided to discover why. I have a dual boot with Windows XP home and Ubuntu 7.10.

The hardware inside seems all well, but the fan stars often when the components temperature is quite and not hot.

So I thought that the windows/linux acpi reports me ALWAYS the CPU tmp. as 75°C. That was impossibile: I discover that acpi sucks and I dubt that the fan stars often because maybe the bios read always 75°C.  Under windows I downlado the Notebook Hardware Control  and add the amilo m1425 specific acpi file  I manage to read the REAL CPU intel and GPU ati tmperature  , and TO CONTROL the fan depending on the temperature.

Is that possible under Linux? Both reading CPU tmp correctly (not 75°C) and to manage to control fan not to start it over often like now. I read about patch acpi and I downloaded from intel the de/compiler for ACPI table . I success to decompile the DSDT table and obtain the readable file and then? How I can program and decide the speed of fan in  functions of the CPU tmp?

Best Regards!

lizardking

Hi RzR,
no problem if I manage to make it work on my mainstream distribution,
I'll upload the instructions on your page.

Right now,
I have flashed the bios 1.9 (read the 1.10 has problems).
I installed the DSDT for 1.10 from http://acpi.sourceforge.net/dsdt/
But I didn't compile a kernel or a X server, my xorg.conf referes to a
"vesa" driver.
I tried fiddling with it ("ati", "radeon") but without success.

(PS : I'll complain on the fujitsu siemens forum)

Cheers,
Bertrand

sense? >>

OK, thanks...

<<I mean is the BIOS/motherboard limiting me here?>>

<who can tell , ask FSC
@ http://support.fujitsu-siemens.de/forum/viewtopic.php?p=37001>

I called them recently and gave the serial number of my notebook: but it
soon became clear to me the tech guy only seemed to have access to material
already available on the FS website. Basically, I knew more than he did. I
also posted a related note on a FS forum, but had zero response.

<<Should I upgrade the BIOS to remedy this, and if so what version should I
use,>>

<I'll do this if I were you>

OK...

<<given the buggy reports mentioned on this forum? >>

<1.09+ are overheating>

OK.

<<Finally, any ideas how to save the current BIOS before attempting flashing
the ROM. I don't want to end up with an unusable notebook!>>

<no I wanted to do this too .. but I am afraid it is impossible

Thanks for your help.

you can try to boot a live cd to check if the disk are visibles see http://knoppix.net

Hi everybody,

I did countless researches on google and tried to parse the rzr wiki,
and I could really use a few answers:
1) Is it possible to have 3D acceleration with my setup? (It seems to me
I don't even have 2D acceleration)
2) How? :)
Is it a pure graphic card issue or is it related to the BIOS/ACPI/DSDT mess?

Thanks for any answer that could help me towards a solution!

Hi everybody,

I'm upgrading the HD of my Amilo A 7600 (c.2002)

http://www.ciao.co.uk/Fujitsu_Siemens_AMILO_A7600__5792242

The original HD supplied is a 20GB IBM Travelstar. I ghosted the
original 20GB drive to a 120GB Toshiba mk1234gaxHD:

http://www3.toshiba.co.jp/storage/english/spec/hdd/mk1234gax.htm

but the Bios is not detecting it. I've checked the ghosted HD and the
disk is readable when fitted in a USB external drive case. So it looks
as if the Bios is the problem. Is that correct? Is there any way
around this? If not what's the max capacity HD (and type of HD) I can
use.

Many thanks,
Dave Randell
