Hi Everyone,

I'm pleased to announce that AmiPodder 1.7 is now available to download.

The major new feature in version 1.7 is support for Podcasts that
require authentication (a username and password). In addition there
are the usual minor enhancements:

* Support for Amplifier as a player.
* Improved podcast feed compatibility.
* Much improved requirements (libraries and MUI custom classes) checking.
* Various bug fixes.

Thanks to everyone who helped with this release including beta
testers, translators (Italian, German and French catalogs are
included), and those who contacted me with suggestions and bug reports.

Download the new version from:
http://www.amipodder.com

BTW, I am continuing to work on AmiPodder and aim to release version
1.8 this year. If any of you have suggestions for new features please
let me know, they stand a good chance of being included in 1.8.

Robert

users and luminaries discussing current events in the Amiga community.
Two episodes are already available and more are planned.

It's always great to hear a new Amiga-related podcast, especially one
that features new speech content. Please support AmiZed by subscribing

Hi Everyone,

I'm very pleased to announce that AmiPodder 1.6 has now been released
and is available to download from the web site. Here is the press release:

A new version of AmiPodder, my utility that allows Amiga users to
subscribe to audio and video podcasts, is now available.

In addition to the usual minor changes and bug fixes, version 1.6 adds
several new features. In the file management mode you can search for
downloaded podcasts using various criteria and then delete those you
no longer want. The user interface has been enhanced with icons
(thanks Ken!) showing the status of podcast channels and episodes at a
glance. Finally, AmiPodder is now localised so it can be translated
into different languages. Italian and German catalogs are supplied and
a translators file is included for anyone who would like to add
support for their language.

AmiPodder 1.6 is written in AREXX using rxMUI and therefore works on
OS 3.x, OS 4 and MorphOS. It's released as freeware and can be
downloaded from:
http://www.amipodder.com

A big thank you to everyone who contributed to this release including
beta testers and translators.

Cheers,

Robert

I have a new beta of AmiPodder 1.6 ready for testing. If you'd like to try a
copy please send your e-mail address to:

robert (at) seal-amiga.co.uk

The new beta doesn't have locale support, however I am working on it:-). I have
just finished localising one of my smaller scripts (PopSearch) to work out how
to implement it in AmiPodder. Over this weekend I will start localising
AmiPodder itself. It will take a while to do because I have to find every string
that will be used in the user interface and add a call to get the localised
version.

Thanks

Robert

Locale support isn't ready for beta testing yet. I'm currently
concentrating on Total Amiga 25, when that is finished I'll continue
working on AmiPodder. I've added you to my list of beta testers so
when the next beta is ready you'll get a copy.

Yes, I took the advice from Mick's article in 'Total Amiga' :-)

Actually, although I should post this in the Total Amiga mailing
list, I may as well mention now that I've been asking in the AmigaOS4
group about Mick's decision to use thermal pads instead of the
thermal grease supplied to interface between the cpu and heatsink.
There was a very detailed response from Steve Bowman as follows:

'The thermal resistance of thermal pads is much higher than metal-to-
metal contact + thermal compond to fill the microscopic gaps. If you
could achieve a perfect molecular level contact between the two
surfaces across the entire surfaces you would not need compound.
However, no matter how smooth the finished lapped surfaces are, there
will always be microscopic gaps, hence the need for some compound.

Thermal pads are used when you need electrical isolation between a
component and its heatsink eg. a voltage regulating transistor on a
grounded heatsink, and so therefore they are a compromise. They are
meant to be used as a (better) alternative to using mica insulators +
compound.'

So I think I'll be sticking with the thermal grease, and it might be
worth pointing out that thermal pads 'may' not be the best solution
for cpu coolers?

That's excellent news, I was wondering whether you'd made any progress with it.

Even with you back in the saddle :-), I'll be down to only two or three testers
so my offer still stands to others BTW.

Wow, that sounds bad, what is it with Amiga companies and crappy processor
coolers :-(

Mick had one of those on his A1 and it was really nice, solid mounting, cool
running and quiet. I think you'll be pleased when it finally arrives.

Well hopefully my AmigaOne-XE will be up and running next week and I
can get back to work :-)

It's actually been working for a couple of weeks, but the new fan
fitted by the repair centre in France is so horrendously noisy that I
can't stand having the Amiga on for more than five minutes :-( I've
ordered a Swiftech MCX159-CU cooler from Overclock.co.uk, but it's
out of stock and had to be back ordered.

Hi Folks,

Just thought I would let you know that I will be at the Big Bash 4
(http://www.amigabigbash.net) show in Peterborough, UK on Saturday
with some other guys from SEAL. In addition to the usual copies of
Total Amiga (and our new Archive CD), I'll also be bringing along my
AmigaOne with the current development version of AmiPodder. So if you
are coming to the show do visit our table and I'll give you a demo of

Version 1.6 is currently in development and I hope to get a version
out to my beta testers soon after the show. Speaking of beta testers,
I could use a couple more. If you are interested in testing early (and
potentially unstable) versions of AmiPodder please e-mail me privately

Thanks and hope to see some of you at the show,

Hi Folks,

I'm pleased to announce that AmiPodder version 1.5 is now available.

This release has several new features, many of them added in response to user
requests. You can now organise your podcasts in to groups. The user interface
has been enhanced with the ability to change the status of multiple podcasts and
progress bars have been added to slow operations. Compatibility with podcast
feeds has also been improved with support for redirected downloads and various
types of character encoding in URLs. In addition, AmiPodder can now work behind

AmiPodder 1.5 is freeware (donations welcome) for OS 3.x, OS 4 and MorphOS, get
it from:

http://www.amipodder.com

As usual I'm keen to hear your comments on this release and suggestions for
future versions.

Locale support is very important expecially for some people with

That's a good idea, but I don't think I'll be able to do it for the
version 1.5. I'm not sure whether it is even possible to use Locale
with the AREXX/rxMUI interface used by AmiPodder. Once 1.5 is
completed I will definitely look into it and see what I can do in
version 1.6.

I have made two further beta releases since that post and version
1.5 now has all the features I wanted to add included. There are a
couple of outstanding bugs that I need to investigate and of course
the beta testers may uncover some more! Plus I need to update the
documentation and create a release package.

Unless one of the bugs proves to be really nasty I think I should be
able to release it before the end of the month.
