Dear Readers,
In anticipation of the upcoming annual meeting, I have
brought the new
version of the ANS public database to a usable level of functionality and
stability.
http://publicserver.numismatics.org/collection/accnum/list is the temporary
URL. There
is a link to this at
http://numismatics.org/search/ .
Some notes:
All images are now available in two sizes. When you first see an image, you'll
see
"[obverse]" and "[reverse]" above it. Clicking these will bring up larger
versions. Clicking
"[both]" will return you to the smaller image showing obverse and reverse.
Try
http://publicserver.numismatics.org/collection/accnum/list?
anykws=moon&imageavailable=yes
(all on one line, of course) to try it out.
Side note: over 15,000 of the database entries are accompanied by images.
Click on "[expand]" to see further information about an object.
The semantics of search have changed and I have tried to make this clear by the
language
of the various hints and pop-up-menus on the search form. I welcome feedback.
But do please remember that this is still in testing mode. The biggest reason
for that is
the software I'm using. Grails (
http://grails.org/ ) is a java/groovy based
rapid
development environment that is itself in testing. It's at "1.0 Release
Candidate 2" but I am
waiting for a few loose ends to be tied up before implementing some ANS
features.
Sincerely,
Sebastian.
