My late father was an avid 'treasure finder' for nearly thirty
years. In that time he took, and logged, over 88,000 coins alone!
As well, he found inumerable medallions. I have one here I sorted
out which has intrigued me, and after some exhaustive Googling, I
determined it appears to be the medallion referenced in the subject
line.
The measurements are exact, the weight is exact, and the inscription
is precise. I first thought it to be "white metal", but after doing
some volume and density calculations it appears it must be a silver
alloy but not coin quality.
I plan to acquire the references cited via interlibrary loan to find
out more regarding this artifact. However, it occured to me that
someone amongst this learned group may have some take on the historic
value and/or some idea as to whether such seemingly archain items are
truly "rare" or rather commonplace.
I would appreciate any information regarding this piece. I do have a
fairly high resolution jpeg I would be willing to make available via
my ISP or email.
Many thanks for any assistance. Zekem1
