Once you can come up with an extensive list of the species names and
synonyms, you can find a lot right on the web that describes the
species. Of course some are so similar that it is an endless dispute
as to which are true species and which are hybrids of two species and
anyhow, just what defines a 'species'? Yes, they seem to breed 'true'
but isn't that true of an inbreed?
I think that we in America are lucky to have what appear to be the best
sort of vines for breeding.
Asiatic Vitis has some good fruiting types, but not the good root
parasite resistance.
I think we'll yet find a few more odd species? in Western China or
Northern India, Afghanistan.
