Have you looked into borrowing the Ampelography text because that has many line
drawings. Or if you are rich you can probably purchase one...if you can locate
one from an online book seller. Best of luck

Like all of you I truly enjoy wine, maybe too much. My request has nothing to do
with wine making or drinking for that matter. I am a silver jewelry maker and I
cannot find art, preferably accurate line drawing art, that shows the various
wine LEAVES. I would then use the drawings to produce various bracelets, rings,
pendants, earrings, etc.
I have been all over Google without success and I would appreciate any direction
you wine lovers could give me.

Once you can come up with an extensive list of the species names and
synonyms, you can find a lot right on the web that describes the
species. Of course some are so similar that it is an endless dispute
as to which are true species and which are hybrids of two species and
anyhow, just what defines a 'species'? Yes, they seem to breed 'true'
but isn't that true of an inbreed?
I think that we in America are lucky to have what appear to be the best
sort of vines for breeding.
Asiatic Vitis has some good fruiting types, but not the good root
parasite resistance.
I think we'll yet find a few more odd species? in Western China or
Northern India, Afghanistan.
Hi everyone,
A lot of people have been emailing me this year about the pictures I used to
have at grapepictures.com which is no longer mine.
Finally I've put up all of the pictures from the old site into a temporary but
functional photo gallery for anyone to view or use. I still have many more
pictures to scan and put online as time permits and I plan to scan all of my
photos for the gallery eventually.
The gallery is located at
http://www.grapegrowersolutions.com/cgi-bin/photogallery/emAlbum.cgi
I plan to put up an album in the gallery for other growers to submit their own
pictures to whenever I get a chance.
Also we have free classifieds for grapes and wine stuff at
grapegrowersolutions.com and
we'll soon be opening our storefront to sell cuttings, fertilizers and YOUR
products if you need a place to sell them. I'm trying to keep everything free
for the growers and when we do sell something to sell it cheaper than you'll
find it anywhere else.
The classifieds are at
http://www.grapegrowersolutions.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/classifieds.cgi
Best regards and happy growing this year!
Michel

You know Carl what I'd really like to learn is grape taxonomy, Unless I am
mistaken that would permit me to identify the differences as well as the
simularities between Vitis Riparia, Vitis "Beta" and say Vitis "Concord". A

I have to admit my main reason for learning ampelography is to sharpen my
eye. When I took animal taxonomy classes many years ago I didn't learn all
that much taxonomy. However after hours of staring at fish and the like, I
was more able discern small differences and recognize oddities. I never
studied plants so I need to touch up those skills.
Besides I don't think any of my crosses are likely to be sequenced. :-)

The actual reason why the list fizzled until now is because I wasn't doing a
berry good job of moderating the group and the spammers got in and drove
everyone away.
I'm moderating again and hope to continue for the rest of my life, God
willing.
With the many books I have from being involved with grapes so long I still
don't have a copy of the Ampelography yet but hope to get one someday.
It will be good to have you aboard.
I'm unfortunately in Georgia right now and am too new with growing in the deep
south to start another vineyard but that will change in a few years as soon as I
can move a bit further north.
Welcome to the group!

Unfortunately, I am not much of a leader. I am relatively new to
grapes. I retired a couple years ago and planted a vineyard in
southeastern Montana. Actually the wife suggested a few vines and I
just followed my usual pattern - 'Anything worth doing is worth over-
doing'. Now I have about 250 vines and room for that many more.
Now I have acquired a copy a copy of 'A Practical Ampelography' and I
thought I might spend the winter learning to identify some of
the 'unknowns' that I run into. Maybe I could be of some use?

Change has always been a part of our profession, society, and science, but as information technologists we always have risen to muster an effective retort. New solutions, systems, methods, and applications are making great strides toward solving the problems effectively, and our specialty must respond as well. In this context, in order to make human being full, environment sustainable, and the world is happy ITAFE'05 as a second event of this congress series will be another great step to adapt and apply ICT and benefit its advantages in agriculture, food and environment.
