Fellow AMUSEans:
As always, I am sending you this in lieu of a
printed report until such time as we again have our
own newsletter up and running.
MEETING OF JULY 6, 2004
Open --
The meeting opened at 8:00 P.M.
The meeting --
Because of so few attending, it was decided not
to take attendance (We are a bit embarrassed.). We
acknowledged our being an official SIG of the New
York Amateur Computer Club. Three explanations for
the lack of attendance were, follows:
1) Unlike some other user groups, most of our mem-
bers are still working for a living, whereas some
other user groups have mostly retirees. This had
the effect of a member recognizing that it is a good
idea to extend the July 4 three day weekend into a
full week of vacation and therefore not be around
for the meeting. Unfortunately, none of us who do
have regular jobs had thought of this when deciding
to skip June's meeting date, but have the meeting in
July.
2) Many of us are so frustrated about not seeing a
production model of the Amiga One, nor learning of
any new software for the current Amigas that it is
almost painful to attend a meeting and learn of more
delays.
3) Some of you figure that because others do go to
the meetings and you do receive this report, it
means you do not have to attend.
To answer all three points:
1) This one was a blunder. We should have foreseen
this. Bad thinking in our planning.
2) We may not have a production model of the A1,
but we do have a working beta production OS4 for
those who did prebuy and who have the A1. Also, at
the meeting, we learned that software for the Amiga,
whether current Amigas, PPC added current ones,
Pegasos running Amiga software, or the A1, is being
developed, updated and upgraded. AWeb and IBrowse
are just two such programs.
3) Part of the purpose of attending is to partici-
pate and share with each other: views, ideas, com-
raderie. Everyone is richer for attending.
Next meeting --
Currently, we are not planning to have a meeting
in August. Due to the very low turn out in July, we
might change our schedule and have the August meet-
ing. You will be notified one way or the other,
prior to that meeing.
One suggestion was presented at the July meeting:
"To require confirmation of attendees to be at an
upcoming meeting. If too few confirm, to then not
hold the meeting that month." What do you think of
this idea?
Close --
Seeing no additional in attendance, the meeting
was closed at 8:30 P.M.
