*** Don't overlook goat and dog power either. And it was told there
was a swine harness around here when we bought the place as she used
to use pigs to do something around here (what I have no idea).. but I
have seen swine hooked to plows in old photos.
We have deep snows in the winter and winter can last 8 months here,
so hitching up a single to a couple dogs to my main sled which has a
5 foot bed on it, will carry down 2 days worth of wood for the
woodstove, haul 500 pounds of feed up to the barns (ok.. that is a 4-
6 dogs pull), a couple square bales if I have them (we tend to have
1,200 pounds rounds) or packed loose hay and six 5 gallon water
buckets, which I would really not have to slog through snow with.
I mainly want to make a draft ox team just because. I do want to use
them for work around here, but not on a full time basis.. and for
posterity.. and keeping the old ways alive.
