Gifts 2001
This is the 2001 Gift Catalog for Bufo's WEIRD WORLD Books. It is simply a sampling of more recent, classic, and ultimate (generally, luxury books that the gift receiver is unlikely to have in most cases) reference books. Many more are available at the main Bufo's WEIRD WORLD Books site. Please also click on the book titles for more information provided by Amazon.com, or to purchase.
GENERAL WEIRD (for more titles see BWWB General Weird)
While most books tend to focus on one topic of weirdness, some are less specific.
New Books:
Investigating the Unexplained (paperback)
By Paul Roland
Reprint edition October 2001
Interviews with well-known investigators and authors, including Erich Von Daniken (superstar author of the 1970s who popularized the theory of Ancient Astronauts with his book CHARIOTS OF THE GODS? among others); David Morehouse (remote viewer, author of PSYCHIC WARRIOR); Jenny Randles, prolific British UFO author; and more.
Classics and reprints:
Mysterious America (paperback)
By Loren Coleman
Revised edition January 2001
This is not a mere "seed catalog" style listing, or a geographic guide. It is one of the truly significant books on weird stuff in America. Not very many books effectively define new mysteries, such as the Phantom Clowns and Mystery Kangaroos offered here. People who already have the original 1983 edition will be pleased with all the new material in this considerably revised and updated version.
The Complete Books of Charles Fort (hardback)
By Charles Fort
This omnibus, reprint edition, April 1975
"One measures a circle beginning anywhere." I don't know that I would begin with this book. It isn't easy reading, and can at times feel like wading through molasses. But unlike the empty calories of that sticky sugar, this is thick with import. It is a book (a combination of four books, actually) that has changed the lives of people. Significant, and yet fun: meticulously researched, and yet ironic; an inspiration, and a challenge to that inspiration all in one. Like quite a few other people in the world, I call myself a "Fortean", but even using that term is making a self-referential joke. Don't look for a simple time, here, but it is worth the effort.

Encyclopedia of Strange and Unexplained Physical Phenomena (hardback)
By Jerome Clark
April 1993
CRYPTOZOOLOGY (for more titles see BWWB Cryptozoology Items)
New Books
By John Michael Greer
October 2001
Don't count on a theory of undiscovered species of "normal", breeding animals in this one. Expect it to have at least somewhat of a supernatural bent.
By Brad Steiger
September 2001
Steiger has written well over 100 books on weird topics. He's also a frequent guest on the Jeff Rense radio show. Brad's world is definitely a weird one.
Classics and reprints:
The Enigma of Loch Ness: Making Sense of a Mystery (paperback)
By Henry Bauer
October 1988
Here is a good one for someone who hasn't yet made a decision about the Loch Ness monster. Has sections with "good reasons to believe" and "good reasons not to believe". One of the better books on any of these areas.

Swamp Gas Times (paperback)
By Patrick Huyghe
June 2001
This is the book I'm reading right now, and the one I read from in my October webcast of Bufo's WEIRD WORLD ON THE AIR. It's not a book about UFOs, exactly, but a collection of articles by someone recognized as a science journalist who writes about UFOs. Each article also has the story behind the article, which may provide considerable insight as to how things get published.
