November-December, 1999 (Vol. 2, #11)<br>
<br>
Books mentioned in BAR can be ordered on most e-mail
systems by clicking on the hyperlink title. This will
take you to the book at Amazon.com. You can read
more about it at that point and decide if you want to
order it. If you do, you add it to your "shopping
cart". Then, if you want another title mentioned here,
please click on it in this post. If you have
questions, please e-mail Bufo at <a
href="mailto:bufocalvin@...">BufoCalvin@...</a>.
<br>
<br>
Books in BAR now include some titles available from
the UK. This is for the convenience of my European
subscribers, as well as allowing for the listing of
more titles. These books will be indicated with a (UK)
designation. Release dates will generally reflect the
U.S., except for exclusively UK titles.<br>
<br>
Welcome to the special gift issue for 1999! There is
still time to order from this, thanks to the Internet
and speedy package delivery! I’m going to break with
tradition here and make this a bit chatty, a bit more
informal. Most of the books listed here have been
listed in previous issues. Next issue should be more
typical.<br>
<br>
If you have books to recommend, please let me know. If
you would like to be named as recommending it, include
that information as well and tell me you would like to
be cited.<br>
<br>
This issue will be broken down by category:
cryptozoology (Bigfoot, Loch Ness Monster, etc.);
parapsychology (mind powers and life after death); and
ufology. Hundreds of more titles on these and other
topics are available at my website at <a
href="http://members.aol.com/weirdware2/index.html">Bufo’s
WEIRD WORLD Books</a>.<br>
<br>
CRYPTOZOOLOGY (see also my page at <a

com/Weirdware2/bwwb-cz-master.html</a>):<br>

What an incredible year! It’s a rare year where there
is even one good cz book, and this year there were at
least three. Loren Coleman had not one but
two titles, both of which are destined to be around
for years. <a
href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0380802635/bufosweirdworld">The
Field Guide to Bigfoot, Yeti, and Other Mystery
Primates Worldwide (paperback)</a>
(and in Europe, <a
href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0380802635/bufosweirdworl08">The
Field Guide to Bigfoot, Yeti, and Other Mystery
Primates Worldwide (paperback)
(UK)</a>)*, ** (co-authored by Patrick Huyghe and
illustrated by Harry Trumbore)
proposed a new classification system for the many
types of hairy bipeds reported around the world. This
book is appropriate for someone with some interest in
the topic. <a
href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0684856026/bufosweirdworld">Cryptoz\
oology
A to Z (paperback)</a> (and in Europe, <a
href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0684856026/bufosweirdworl08">Cryp\
tozoology
A to Z (UK) (paperback)</a>) *, **(co-authored by
Jerry Clark) is a great gift both for the fan and the
beginner. Newcomer J.P. O’Neill has established
herself as one of the really important cryptozoology
writers with <a
href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0892724617/bufosweirdworld">The
Great New England Sea Serpent (paperback)</a> (and <a
href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0892724617/bufosweirdworld08">The
Great New England Sea Serpent (paperback) (UK)</a> in
Europe)*, **. This book, which is as much a history
book as a cz book, would be appropriate even if the
recipient had no prior interest. As with all
crossover titles, it is as much about people as it is
about mysteries. <br>
<br>
PARAPSYCHOLOGY (see also my page at <a
href="http://members.aol.com/Weirdware2/bwwb-ps-master.html">http://members.aol.\

It’s been an interesting year here as well, although
perhaps not quite so unusual Rupert Sheldrake’s <a
href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0609600923/bufosweirdworld">Dogs
That Know When Their Owners are Coming Home</a> is
worth noting, and has gotten
some significant press. Sheldrake is a
maverick scientist, who has credentials but delves
into “forbidden” topics. A professional of a
different
sort is Robert Snow, an Indianapolis homicide
detective who tries to get the dirt on his own past
life in <a
href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1579541011/bufosweirdworld">
Looking for Carroll Beckwith : The True Story of a
Detective's Search for His Past Life (hardback)</a> *
In the ever-popular Dead Celeb category is <a
href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0967596130/bufosweirdworld">In
Her Own Words (paperback)</a>, billed as the
After-Death Journal of Princess

fans of THE SIXTH SENSE, <a

Last Time (paperback)</a> (and <a
href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0749919795/bufosweirdworl08">One
Last Time (paperback) (UK)</a>)*, **. John
Edward is one of the most convincing mediums (or
should that be media?) I’ve heard on the radio, unless
he is using confederates. Fans of the military
connection may also enjoy <a

Psychic War (paperback)</a> (and <a

Gruber.<br>

Still enjoying popularity, the topic of UFOs has
spawned a plethora of books this year. <a

matter, a debunking. For an extensive excerpt, see <a

Pulitzer-prize winning Harvard psychiatrist who
supports the reality of the abduction phenomenon…while

written within the Western scientific paradigm is <a

by a University panel that concluded that UFO reports
were worth investigating, it does not endorse the
extraterrestrial hypothesis.<br>
