RAM is getting cheaper but its not free. Most apps only make use of 2 - 4 G of RAM, so there's not necessarily a good reason to load up a Mac Pro with 16G RAM...

If Apple says 2G is optimal, then I wouldn't expect that 3G would be much of an advantage. But if 4G is cheap, no reason not to get it, and having more stuff...
