I see references to EADs and XML, expect more alphabet soup to shortly be
posted, and am reminded of Alexander Pope's caution:
A little knowledge is a dangerous thing,
Drink deep, or taste not the Pyerian spring.
Although I believe that selective reading of what's on the Web can quickly
expose the essentials, it seems likely that any neophyte in this particular
spring might shortly feel more like a baby dinosaur in a tar pit.
Let me recommend to anyone who cares, and does not already "grok" (ref:
Heinlein, "Stranger in a Strange Land") such acronyms, a less painful
beginning would be to ask a nearby guru (Technion Haifa surely has some) to
give an hour's tutorial that positions these markup languages and gives the
essential ideas. This can readily be done in one hour by someone who
really understands and who also is a good teacher. THEN look at Web pages
and/or books of the ilk, "XXXXX for Idiots"; notwithstanding the title,
many of this series are really of respectable quality.
