->> Did 2 tournaments -- one for 16 baseball teams and one 18
softball teams.
We did action photos, team photos and action "on request" photos for
the personalized posters. We did proof sheets on site, printed on
HP550 on every day photo paper and placed them in sheet protectors
and put them into a 3 ring binder. We also printed and sold 4" x 6",
printing them on a Epson R200 and on Epson premium photo paper, the
prints came out very very nice. The 4" x 6" sold fine but I don't
think we'll do it at the next one. Took up too much time, that we
could have used to help parents with the poster orders, since the 4"
x 6" sold for $4 each and the posters went for on average $75 each.
And also since I could hear a few people as they walked away saying
they could just scan this and print a larger photo.
Also for the next one would prefer to do a viewing station instead
of proof sheets to save time and money, just need to get a better
canopy and/or hood for the monitor (anybody know where you can get a
hood for a monitor?). The monitor was hard to see in the sunlight.
For the personalized posters -- asked for a deposit of $20 at sign
up time, accepted cash or check, would like to add the ability to
take credit cards onsite. When signing up -- asked for last name,
team, number, when next game was being played and on what field.
Also asked for a phone number and email address so we could contact
them, if for some reason they didn't come back to select the photos
they wanted to use for the posters and fill out the order form. Once
they signed up we would take about 20 to 30 photos of their child,
some would be batting, some in the other positions they played and
other candid shots. When they came back to select the photos we had
them fill out an order form and pay the balance or gave them the
option of paying the balance online so that they could use a credit
card. We also would later send them a low resolution JPEG to view
the poster to be sure all spelling was correct and it looked fine to
them. We also included a link to the online photos to their child's
team and to the team photos, if available, most would purchase more
photos when doing this.
We also had full size sample posters in frames for them to view,
this helped a lot and more than I expected went for the largest we
offered 24" x 36".
Did well with this method only 1 parent out of about 50 asked for
their deposit back because they didn't like the photos we captured.
You can see samples of posters at
http://www.artisticaction.com/templates01.htm.
We tried packages at the 1st one and it seemed to complicated, I
feel packages would work best for individual posed shots and didn't
work for action shots.
We did well with the team prints for the team that we could get to
pose for us, had a hard time getting them to cooperate. We offered
team prints with and without borders. All the team prints that were
ordered were the ones with the borders. Created one with a
baseball/softball theme in the team colors and name and date of
tournament and offered one with a patriotic border, and of those
that ordered them about 50% purchased both. We did have some ready
to sell on site and think it would be worth figuring out a faster or
better method of getting them ready to sell on site.
Did better with onsite sales that online but online was definitily
worth the work to post so far it is about 50% of the onsite sales.
We told parents and players that photos would be posted by the
following evening and sorted by team, and that the photos would be
posted for 30 days. We passed out business card size "flyers" with
the link to the photos and our contact info. We hosted the photos on
our site and used eOrdering Gold to create a PayPal shopping cart
and thumbnails. Water marked the larger images that were created by
eOrdering Gold. You can see an example at

All in all we had a great time, it was a lot of work and we were
asked to come to 2 more tourneys and to come and shoot for football
teams, basketball teams, cheerleading and swimming, just wish these
team were closer to home. The tournament was 80 miles away and only
1 team was from our area.
And any tips and advise from other pros would be appreciated.
